Kathie Lee Gifford asks Martin Short how his late wife is doing

During the "Today" show on Wednesday, Kathie Lee Gifford asked Martin Short how his wife was doing, not realizing she passed nearly two years ago of natural causes.

During the live NBC morning show, Gifford asked the actor what the secret was to his great marriage with Nancy Dolman, noting that the two "are still madly in love" and "make each other laugh."

When Gifford asked the comedic actor "how many years are you in love with her now?" Short quietly answered, "Thirty-six."

Short, who was promoting the new animated movie, "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted," did not correct Gifford during the show, but told her afterward. Gifford said that the actor told her, "you said I had one of the greatest marriages and I still do."

"I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family," Gifford Tweeted after the show. "He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I'm so grateful."

Short's wife died on August 24, 2010 at age 58 of natural causes, after battling ovarian cancer. The couple met in 1972, during a Toronto production of "Godspell."

Dolman and Short, who were married 30 years, had three children - Katherine, 28, Oliver, 26, and Henry, 23, who just graduated from Notre Dame.

Dolman was a comedic actress and a native of Canada, like Short. She had a recurring role in 1981 on the television series "Soap" but retired from acting to raise the couple's children.

Short has starred in "The Three Amigos," "Clifford" and the "Father of the Bride" films. He has also appeared on series like "How I Met Your Mother," "Weeds" and received an Emmy nomination for his role on "Damages."

Dharun Ravi to report to jail in Rutgers webcam case

AP  GEOFF MULVIHILLNEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- A former Rutgers University student convicted of using a webcam to spy on his gay roommate is poised to start serving his 30-day jail sentence.

Dharun Ravi, 20, is scheduled to turn himself in Thursday at the Middlesex County Jail.

In March, a jury found Ravi guilty of 15 criminal charges, including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation. He used his webcam in September 2010 to stream - and view - seconds of live video of roommate Tyler Clementi and another man kissing, and told others they could watch another encounter two days later. Clementi jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge just days after the ordeal began.

Ravi could have remained free while prosecutors appeal his sentence. But during a hearing Wednesday, he agreed to waive his protection from double jeopardy. He is now not allowed to argue that he's already served his time if prosecutors prevail on their appeal and he receives a longer sentence.

Ravi requested permission Tuesday to start serving his sentence as he apologized for the first time for his actions, which he described in a statement as "thoughtless, insensitive, immature, stupid and childish." In court Wednesday, Ravi answered questions from his lawyer and Berman but did not say any more about his apology.

Ravi's lawyer Joseph Benedict said he's still appealing the conviction altogether.

It's not clear whether Ravi will serve the full 30 days. In most cases, New Jersey county jail inmates with 30-day sentences automatically have them reduced by 10 days for good behavior. A warden at Middlesex County Jail was not immediately available Wednesday to say whether that would apply to Ravi.

His lawyer said Ravi would also begin working on his 300 hours of community service and start paying the more than $11,000 in fines and assessments that are part of his punishment.

Some gay rights activists have portrayed Clementi's story as a prime example of the consequences of bullying young gays. Ravi's defenders see him as a scapegoat for a death that they don't believe he was responsible for - and was not charged with.

City looks to ban large, sugary drinks in obesity fight

AP  Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK -- If Mayor Michael Bloomberg has his way, New York City could have the toughest anti-soda laws in the country. Big, sugary drinks would be illegal.

The proposed first-in-the-nation ban would impose a 16-ounce limit on the size of sweetened drinks sold at restaurants, movie theaters, sports venues and street carts. It would apply to bottled drinks as well as fountain sodas.

The ban, which could take effect as soon as March, would not apply to diet sodas, fruit juices, dairy-based drinks or alcoholic beverages. Nor would it include drinks sold in grocery or convenience stores. Food establishments that don't downsize would face fines of $200.

Bloomberg said Wednesday that he "thinks it's what the public wants the mayor to do."

A spokesman for the New York City Beverage Association, Stefan Friedman, criticized the proposal as "zealous." He said officials should seek solutions that are actually going to curb obesity.

"There they go again," the Association said in a statement. "The New York City Health Department's unhealthy obsession with attacking soft drinks is again pushing them over the top. The city is not going to address the obesity issue by attacking soda, because soda is not driving the obesity rates."

The proposal requires the approval of the city's Board of Health, which is considered likely because its members are all appointed by Bloomberg.

Under the three-term mayor, the city has campaigned aggressively against obesity, including outlawing trans-fats in restaurant food and forcing chain restaurants to post calorie counts on menus.

The Bloomberg administration has tried other ways to make soda consumption less appealing. The mayor supported a state tax on sodas, but the measure died in Albany, and he tried to restrict the use of food stamps to buy sodas, an idea federal regulars rejected.

City Hall's latest proposal does not require outside approval, although public hearings will be held.

See it on TV? Check here.  Eyewitness NewsIDAHO (WABC) -- Is it Bigfoot, or just a high school prank?

Sasquatch hunters are headed to Idaho after a high school student there released video he says he shot in the woods.

He and fellow students were working on a school project when they saw a large, dark figure looking at them.

It then disappeared into the treeline.

They also took photos of some big footprints they say they found.

Bigfoot sightings typically happen in the Pacific Northwest, but there have been other reports of them in this area of Idaho as well.

Body dysmorphia takes son's life

From the age of 11, Nathaniel Asselin struggled with body dysmorphia -- a cruel disorder that made him magnify every imperfection he imagined on his face.

The "fiercely intelligent" boy with a keen sense of humor agonized over gelling his hair the right way or staying in shape, but mostly about his skin.

"A shaving nick or a small blemish, or even just a bump under the skin would keep him in front of the mirror for hours, applying small pieces of Band aid to cover up the marks," said his mother, Judy Asselin, a middle school teacher from Pennsylvania.

"The irony, of course," she said, "was that he had a beautiful complexion."

In his teens, Nathaniel's social sphere grew smaller. Dating was "an impossibility," according to his mother. And when he mustered the courage to leave the house, he thought people were looking at him because of his "wrong" appearance.

But after numerous hospitalizations and failed treatments, Nathaniel took his own life somewhere near the family's home in Cheyney, Pa., at the age of 24.

He told his parents throughout the "roller coaster" of his life: "I can't do this anymore," and "I can't wake up in my bed in the morning and do this all over again."

His father, Denis Asselin, a retired French teacher, said they felt "helpless."

Now, his grieving father has embarked on a 525-mile trek on foot to Boston -- "Walking With Nathaniel" -- stopping at hospitals and clinics that were part of his son's painful journey.

As for healing, Asselin, 64, said that if he "puts one foot head of the other" he might get there.

"It was a metaphorically powerful symbol for me -- how to move forward after the most tragic experience," he said.

Nathaniel had dysmorphic body disorder (BDD) -- often called "broken mirror syndrome" -- a form of obsessive compulsive disorder that may affect as many as 1 in 100 people, according to the International OCD Foundation.

The disorder commonly starts in adolescence when children begin to compare themselves to their peers. The obsessions can consume a person's thoughts, harming every aspect of their life.

"They focus on a part of the body -- the nose is too big or the skin is not smooth enough or the hair is not thick enough," said the foundation's executive director Dr. Jeff Szymanski. "For men, you have a group who feel like they are too thin ... the gym rats."

Those with BDD can fixate on their appearance, mirror checking and covering up with hats, scarves or make-up. Some turn to frequent and excessive plastic surgery.

"It goes beyond a preoccupation and the mind can't let go of the obsessions," he said.

They are at 45 times greater risk for suicide than the general population. And because those with BDD don't recognize they have a problem, therapies are often ineffective.

"You have to look at their belief system and get insight in there and go the distance," he said.

Szymanski praised Denis Asselin, who has already raised $50,000 for research, who has turned "adversity to advocacy," a theme of the foundation.

Asselin left Pennsylvania on April 24 and by June 7, he will arrive in Boston, the home of McLean and Massachusetts General hospitals, in clinics where Nathaniel sought treatment.

Nathaniel began to experience OCD compulsions in the fifth grade. A healthy interest in running became an obsession and his weight dropped. By high school, he was spending hours in front of the mirror.

A therapist suggested Nathaniel had BDD. School and the pressures that accompanied test taking were stressful for Nathaniel.

"It was as if the patterns he followed were all dictated by the disorder," said Judy Asselin. "He never felt he could launch a career, as he couldn't go to college. He was brilliant and could have taken anything if he had not had the disorder."

Nathaniel yearned to be an emergency medical technician, "to be a hero, a rescuer," but getting the certification in a timed manner was "unbearable" to him, she said.

Instead, he volunteered to be an ambulance rider, and coached track and worked part-time at Westfield School, where Judy Asselin is a middle school teacher.

"He was a pied piper," said his father. "Kids just loved him and they never knew about his struggle because he never complained."

But Nathaniel's obsessions continued to get worse and medications came with side effects. He was eventually hospitalized at McLean, but ran away, refusing treatment.

Annette Hempel lived on the first floor of a two family home at 673 Jefferson Avenue in Elizabeth.

She was last seen alive by a family member who lives on the second floor around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. When the family member returned a few hours later they found Hempel on the floor of the living room unresponsive, said prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide, but how she was killed has not been released.

A nearly life-long resident of the city Hempel was known in the neighborhood as a kind woman.

Student, 12, suspended after 'kill list' found

See it on TV? Check here. SOUTHOLD (WABC) -- A good will gesture led a Long Island student to discover he and several classmates are on a kill list. The list contained more than just names.

"It literally said at the top in big letters, 'kill list.' So it's scary," Noah Ludlow, 12, said.

Pace thought he was being nice when he invited a new classmate, who doesn't speak the best English, to sit at lunch with Noah and his friends. But then Noah saw what the student had written in his notebook.

"I look over and there's a bunch of names and one of them is my first name and I say, 'Is that me?' He goes yeah and he had illustration for each one how he was gonna kill each one," Pace said.

He says he saw 20 names in all. He told a teacher at Southold Junior Senior High School. Administrators say they quickly notified police, who removed the 12-year-old for an interview and a medical examination. Even though he's been suspended from school, investigators declined to file criminal charges.

"Usually it turns criminal when it is a direct threat from one person to another person and at this point I don't think our investigation has leaned towards any direct threats being made," police said.

In fact, school administrators say they're convinced the student who wrote the list didn't actually understand what it meant when he drew it up. Still, Superintendent David Gamberg says they haven't taken it lightly, suspending the student who may not be allowed back.

"We take all of these matters - anything that approaches anything like this is taken seriously and should be taken seriously," Gamberg said.

But not seriously enough for Noah's mom, who has chosen to home school her son until she knows for sure his classmate isn't coming back.

"The child has instilled fear in students in the place they're supposed to feel safe," she said.

Alleged Etan Patz killer put on suicide watch

AP  COLLEEN LONGNEW YORK -- The timing couldn't have been more symbolic: On the eve of National Missing Children's Day, police said they'd at last cracked the case that started it - the 1979 disappearance of 6-year-old Etan Patz.

After decades of inconclusive clues and stalled hopes, a former convenience-store stock clerk was arrested Thursday on a charge of murdering Etan, one of the first missing children ever to appear on a milk carton. He vanished while walking to his school bus stop alone for the first time.

Pedro Hernandez, 51, told investigators this week he lured the little boy into the shop with the promise of a soda, then led him to the basement, choked him and put his body in a bag with some trash about a block away, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said. Investigators hadn't determined any motive, he said.

Kelly said there is no physical evidence. But authorities say they have a detailed, signed confession, as well as accounts of incriminating remarks Hernandez made to others.

Hernandez was taken to Bellevue Hospital overnight and is being held on suicide watch. It is still likely he will be arraigned later Friday in Criminal Court in Lower Manhattan. However, a hospital arraignment is also a possibility.

While the arrest marked only the start of what could be a complex court case, it was a stunning turn in one of the nation's most tortuous and baffling missing-children cases. Police had been aware of Hernandez, as the shop was in Etan's neighborhood, but had never before eyed the married father as a suspect. Another man had long been the prime suspect, and investigators questioned yet a third man as recently as last month.

All the while, Stan and Julie Patz have stayed in same downtown Manhattan apartment, never even changing their phone number in case their vanished son tried to call.

"We can only hope," Kelly said, "that these developments bring some measure of peace to the family."

The Patzes and a lawyer for them didn't immediately return calls Thursday.

At Hernandez' home in Maple Shade, N.J., no one answered the door Thursday night. Neighbors said they were surprised at his arrest.

"I knew the guy. He was not a problem. His family was great people," said Dan Wollick, 71, who rents an apartment in Hernandez' home. "He didn't bother anybody."

The arrest - the first ever in the case - was a long-sought grail for authorities, including Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr., who announced he was renewing the investigation shortly after he took office in 2010.

His office, which declined to comment Thursday, will now move on to the work of prosecuting a 33-year-old case in which no body has ever been found. Prosecutors will likely look to amass witness statements or other evidence to support Hernandez' account.

Etan vanished on May 25, 1979, in New York's busy SoHo neighborhood, which was edgier then than the swath of chic boutiques it is now.

Police conducted an exhaustive search amid a crush of media attention. Thousands of fliers of the sandy-haired boy with the toothy grin were plastered around the city. Buildings were canvassed and hundreds of people interviewed.

The disappearance ushered in an era of anxiety about leaving children unsupervised, and President Ronald Reagan designated the anniversary as National Missing Children's Day in 1983.

Detectives are often inundated with hoaxes, false leads and possible sightings around the anniversary. But Kelly said they had probable cause to believe Hernandez's story was true, because of specific details he gave to police.

Hernandez, who had worked at the convenience store for about a month and lived nearby, wasn't questioned at the outset, Kelly said. Days after Etan vanished, Hernandez left that job and moved to New Jersey, where he had relatives, the commissioner said.

Hernandez worked in construction until he suffered a back injury in 1993 and has since received disability payments, Kelly said. He said Hernandez, who has a teenage daughter, had no criminal record.

But he told a relative and others, as far back as 1981, that he had "done something bad" and killed an unnamed child in New York City, according to Kelly. Police learned that only recently, when a tipster - not a relative - pointed police to Hernandez, after a search of a basement near Patz' home last month hurtled the case back into the news, Kelly said.

Police took him into custody Wednesday night, and after several hours of questioning, he provided a signed confession, Kelly said.

"He was remorseful, and I think the detectives thought that it was a feeling of relief on his part," the commissioner said.

Earlier leads had arisen and stalled, at one point taking investigators as far as Israel to track reported sightings of Etan.

For most of the past decade, the investigation focused on Jose Ramos, a convicted child molester now in prison in Pennsylvania. He had been dating Etan's baby sitter.

A civil judge found him to be responsible for the boy's disappearance and presumed death, largely because he refused to answer some questions under oath, but he was never criminally charged. He might be able to get the civil judgment reviewed now.

A few weeks ago, investigators excavated a basement down the street from the Patz apartment but found no human remains. They questioned a handyman who had a workspace in the cellar in 1979. But he was not named as a suspect and denied any involvement in the boy's disappearance.

Finally, on Thursday, police told Patz' parents they had honed in on Hernandez.

"Mr. Patz was taken aback, a little surprised, and I would say overwhelmed, to a degree," Lt. Christopher Zimmerman said. " ... He was a little surprised, but I think after everything Mr. Patz has gone through, he handled it very well."

Associated Press writers Deepti Hajela, Tom Hays and Karen Matthews in New York and Geoff Mulvihill in Maple Shade, N.J., contributed to this report.

Rosaries never delivered update

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Michelle Hintzsche is accused of defrauding many victims.

Authorities say Keepsake Rosaries is a sham, taking money from consumers, promising to make precious rosaries from funeral flowers, but delivering nothing but heart break.

Hintzsche's lawyer asked for leniency from felony prosecution in court this week, based on family issues which he says kept her from performing her work.

"It was her intention to perform the work," the attorney said when we asked why she kept taking other people's money.

"If you want issues, I'll give you a laundry list of issues that's been going on in my family as well, but if you have a business you have responsibility to people," Eileen McShane said.

The owner of Keepsake Rosaries was arrested last month. 7 On Your Side first confronted her two years ago when Hintzsche took the money, but failed to deliver 2 sets of rosaries. One was made from funeral flowers of a baby boy who died of SIDs.

"I have to get better at communicating," Hintzsche told us then.

But the business practice did not improve. In fact, authorities say it became criminal. Detectives showed us unopened boxes of flowers dating back to 2011 and, they say, as far as they know all the checks were cashed.

"She emailed me saying she had my rose petals," McShane explained. "She said to me in an email if I hadn't gone to the police, I would have them a week ago. I don t know where that comes from."

I'm not sure I can work with you, but I know her intentions are to get you your product back.

"Make my product absolutely or get my money back," McShane said.

By the end of that week, the McShane's beloved mothers memory was finally honored.

Hintzsche lawyers said all of Keepsake Rosaries customers will get their finished products or their flowers and money back. Some customers are from as far away as France. Hinske plead not guilty to the fraud charges and will be back in court next month.

4 Ways to Plan a Romantic New York Sightseeing Excursion

Jenna Jameson, former porn star, arrested for DUI - see mug shot

Retired porn star Jenna Jameson was arrested in Southern California early Friday morning for driving under the influence.

According to the 911 call obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com, Jameson drove her white Range Rover crashed into a light pole in Westminster, Calif. and the cops arrived after a witness made the call.

The Associated Press reports that Jameson suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment. A field sobriety test showed signs of intoxication and Jameson was booked and later cited and released.

The 38-year-old former adult star's website issued a statement which said Jameson is home and well but has no immediate comment on the incident.

Jameson has 3-year-old twin sons, Jesse Jameson and Journey Jette with her boyfriend, mixed martial arts star Tito Ortiz. In 2010, Ortiz was arrested for felony domestic abuse and claimed that Jameson was addicted to the painkiller Oxycontin. Both parties have since withdrawn their charges and allegations.

Jameson is one of the world's most well-known pornographic actresses. She worked in the industry from 1993 until 2007, when she announced that she would no longer appear in pornographic films.

She continued running ClubJenna, the adult entertainment company she founded with her now ex-husband Jay Grdina, which is said to gross $30 million a year.

Jameson also appeared in Howard Stern's 1997 film "Private Parts" and her 2004 autobiography, "How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale" spend six weeks on the New York Times best seller list.

Search for Mickey Shunick: Video of cyclist found

Investigators who've expanded their search after combing the area where Michaela "Mickey" Shunick disappeared found surveillance video showing a glimpse of someone riding a bicycle who they believe could be the Louisiana student.

The footage is too blurry to tell whether the person is Shunick, a senior anthropology major at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, police said. The 22-year-old left friend Brettly Wilson's house on her bike last week after a night out, and hasn't been heard from since.

As investigators and the woman's family expand the search, even sending out a recorded plea for help mentioning a $25,000 reward for information, some people in the area where she vanished have begun to wonder whether Shunick was abducted at all.

"What concerns us is, where is her bicycle?" Det. Stephen Bajat of the Lafayette police department said. "If it is some kind of abduction, most people would snatch and go on and not concern themselves with the bicycle."

Investigators searching for any clues have found no cellphone, purse or virtually any trace of Shunick since she left Wilson's house on her bicycle at 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

"The only way to solve this is if someone comes forward with a tip -- and [investigators] need the public," former FBI profiler and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett said.

Hundreds of people from the community and beyond have come to aid in the search for Shunick. So many are coming to help that the volunteer headquarters had to be moved to the nearby university to accommodate them all.

Now Equusearch, the well-known search and recovery group, has turned out in force.

"We're hoping for the best," Tim Miller of Equusearch said. "We don't sugarcoat anything. It does not look good, doesn't look good at all, but we believe in miracles."

Wilson, the last person to see her the night she vanished, has turned to the Web with his plea for assistance in the search. He has posted a YouTube clip seeking help via social media.

"This is the power of social media ... To bring back somebody, and end a family's heartbreak … You have the chance to extend the information about this young woman to everyone you know," Wilson says in the clip.

Friends and family held a candle light vigil Tuesday night, and announced a reward for tips leading to her whereabouts. Searches by K-9 units, police and volunteers have turned up no hints of what happened, but her family remains hopeful.

A benefit concert is scheduled for the weekend to increase the $25,000 reward for information on what happened to Shunick.

Shunick is 5-foot-1 and 115 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pastel multi-colored striped shirt, light-wash skinny jeans and gray shoes.

Devils advance to the Stanley Cup Finals

AP  Eyewitness NewsNEWARK -- The memory of missing the playoffs for first time since 1996 and the ghost of an 18-year-old wound were wiped out with a sweep of rookie Adam Henrique's stick.

The New Jersey Devils are going back to the Stanley Cup finals, thanks to Henrique, a 40-year-old goaltender and a coach who'd never been to the postseason in the NHL.

How's that for a turnaround?

Henrique scored off a wild scramble in front at 1:03 into overtime and the Devils defeated the rival New York Rangers, 3-2, in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals to advance to their first Stanley Cup finals since 2003.

"It means a lot," Devils leading scorer Ilya Kovalchuk said minutes after reaching the Cup finals for the first time. "It's a great feeling. Last year was a tough one, but this year was totally different. We played well all year. The first round of the playoffs was a little tough but after that, I think we figured out our game and what it takes to win."

After beating Florida, Philadelphia and their biggest rivals, the Rangers, only the Los Angeles Kings stand in the way of a fourth Cup for New Jersey.

The title round begins here Wednesday.

This series win came against the Devils' most intense rival, and it was that much sweeter.

"That one was like Christmas," said Henrique, who also scored the series winner in overtime as Devils' first-round, Game 7 win over the Panthers.

It also was needed. The Devils blew a 2-0 first-period lead and didn't want to head back to New York for a Game 7 on Sunday.

"It didn't matter how it got to overtime, we were in a good position," Devils captain Zach Parise said. "We were at home. We just needed one shot."

Actually, the Devils needed four shots to win the game.

Henrique's winner came after Henrik Lundqvist stopped Kovalchuk twice and Alexei Ponikarovsky. The last shot lay in the crease and Henrique tapped it home.

"We caught them on a line change and their defensemen were tired," said Devils coach Peter DeBoer, who was fired by Florida after missing the playoffs in his three seasons. "We found a way to jam one in. That's the only way you're going to score on Lundqvist. You're not going to get a clean one. You're going to have to work for it around the net.

"And that's what we did."

Ryan Carter and Kovalchuk also scored for the Devils, whose biggest move this year was hiring DeBoer. He has more than proved his coaching ability.

Ruslan Fedotenko and Ryan Callahan tallied for top-seeded New York, which had a good flurry just before New Jersey scored to end it.

Henrique, who is nominated for the Calder Trophy - given to the NHL's top rookie - skated away from the crease and jumped against the end boards in the corner as his teammates hopped off the bench and mobbed him.

The six Rangers on the ice just stayed down in disbelief and frustration. This was very much like Game 5, which the Devils won 5-3. New York carried the play after the first period and had a 35-29 edge in shots.

But when it came time for a game-deciding play to be made, it was a Devil who made it.

"When they scored, it was such an empty feeling," said Lundqvist, who said the puck took a weird bounce on the final play. "It is shocking."

Henrique overcame injury to score this one. He seemed to take a stick from Brian Boyle in the groin area late in the third and had to leave the ice.

He felt no pain after the game winner.

All the Rangers could do was bow their heads and then line up for the traditional handshake after losing to their cross-rival rivals in a series that was close.

"That's playoff hockey, and that's usually where you get an overtime goal," Rangers veteran Brandon Prust said. "Just whacking away in front of the net, getting rebounds."

Martin Brodeur, 40, kept the Devils alive in the third. He stopped a power-play shot by Brad Richards, made a save on Artem Anisimov between the circles and used his stick to deflect a pass from the boards by Carl Hagelin in the final minute just before it got to Marian Gaborik on the edge of the crease.

"You could tell he was in the zone. He led us," Parise said. "He made some big saves tonight."

Lundqvist's best stop in the third was on Dainius Zubrus on a shot from behind the circles.

Facing elimination and down 2-0 after 20 minutes, the Rangers found their game in the second period and tied the game at 2-all on goals by Fedotenko and Callahan in a roughly four-minute span.

Defenseman Ryan McDonagh, who assisted on both goals, made the big play to get New York back in the game. He collected the puck above the left circle, skated around the net and tried a wrap around. The shot didn't go on goal but it turned out to be a perfect pass to Fedotenko who a tap-in into an open net at 9:47.

Callahan, who had a New York goal go off his leg in the Devils' 5-3 win on Wednesday, tied the game at 13:41 when Dan Girardi's shot from the right point deflected off his leg into the open lower corner of the net. Callahan's sixth of the postseason was set up when Brandon Dubinsky won a faceoff in the left circle.

Carter, who scored the game winner in New York on Wednesday night after the Devils blew a 3-0 lead, put New Jersey ahead again at 10:05 of the opening period.

The play started with a bad pinch at the point by Rangers defenseman Marc Staal. Steve Bernier led a 3-on-1 and found Stephen Gionta coming down the middle for a solo chance against Lundqvist. The Rangers goaltender stopped the shot, but Carter swatted the rebound home for his fourth of the playoffs.

Kovalchuk's seventh goal of the postseason and fifth on the power play was a thing of beauty. All five Devils skaters touched the puck with tape-to-tape passes with Zubrus finding Kovalchuk alone low in the left circle for a shot that Lundqvist had little chance to stop.

The Devils - as is the tradition for many Cup finalists - did not touch the Prince of Wales Trophy that was presented at center ice. As the team skated off to their locker room, "Glory Days," the 1984 hit from New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen serenaded them.

The game was played on the 18-year anniversary of the Rangers' dramatic, 4-2, Game 6 victory over New Jersey at the Meadowlands, a victory that pushed that classic Eastern Conference final series to a Game 7 and eventually led New York to its first Stanley Cup in 54 years. That game, of course, was preceded by a guarantee from Rangers captain Mark Messier, who delivered three goals en route to the victory.

This time, though, there will be no Game 7.

NOTES: The Empire State Building's tower lights were lit in red and blue on Friday to cheer on the Rangers. ... Mogul and TV personality Donald Trump was at the game. ... Devils C Travis Zajac left the ice briefly in the second after being slashed on the left hand by Prust. No penalty was called. ... New Jersey is 4-1 in overtime in the postseason. New York finished 2-3 after regulation.

Recipe: Cheese Ravioli Serves 4 people

FRESH DOUGH:

400 grams of All Purpose Flour (Apx. 3 cups)
4 whole eggs
pinch of salt

Directions:

Easiest way to do in Kitchen-aid. Lightly beat the eggs pour into mixing bowl, use dough hook adjustment, add flour and salt and mix until silky slightly tacky texture (apx. 10 mins.). Roll into a ball, cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate about 20 minutes.

CHEESE FILLING

1 1/2 cups of whole milk ricotta 1/4c grated cheese (pecorino or parmigiano) 1/4t kosher salt 2T fresh chopped parsley (use dry parsley only if you dont have fresh) Just mix with a spoon in a medium size bowl

PASTA:

1. Roll-out dough in pasta machine, will need to do this about 7-10 times to get the dough thin enough and air bubbles out.

2. Place about 1T cheese filling about 2 inches apart on the length of dough, one T for each ravioli.

3. Fold over dough - press to seal in between each scoop of cheese, and press edges of dough together, removing air bubbles.

4. Cut out raviolis with pasta cutter - (if you don't have a pasta cutter use a knife then press edges with a fork to seal).

5. Cook pasta 3-4 minutes in salted, boiling water.

MARINARA SAUCE (best to make ahead)

Ingredients:

1 28oz can whole peeled tomatoes (your favorite is fine) 3-4 medium garlic cloves 1/4C fresh chopped basil 1 tsp kosher salt - will adjust seasoning to preference 2T olive oil

Directions:

Saute garlic in oil until golden brown. Add tomatoes and 1/2 can of water. Add basil and salt and simmer over medium low flame for 30 minutes.

Suffolk County to release shocking drug report

See it on TV? Check here.  Eyewitness NewsSUFFOLK COUNTY (WABC) -- Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota will unveil a 98-page Grand Jury report Thursday detailing astonishing statistics of an epic drug crisis on Long Island.

Eyewitness News has exclusively obtained a copy of the report.

Months ago, in response to the Father's Day 2011 massacre at Medford's Haven Drugs, Spota empanelled a special grand jury to look into the problems of opiate abuse and doctor shopping. The investigation has yielded indictments against 26 people, for the following:

Sale and possession of controlled substances Vehicular assault Vehicular manslaughter Driving while ability impaired Criminal possession of forged instrument

Perhaps more important than the indictments are the startling numbers detailed in the report, including the following:

Between 2006 and 2010, Suffolk heroin arrests rose 170 percent, from 486 to 1,315. Suffolk County has seen 70 percent more prescriptions for oxycodone than the average for any other state. Between 2004 and 2011, the number of overdose victims with oxycodone in their blood jumped 266 percent. In the same time period, the number of overdose deaths attributed to opioids increased 69 percent. Between 1996 and 2011, the Suffolk County Drug Court treatment program saw a 425 percent increase in heroin abuse, and a 1,136 percent increase in opioid pill abuse.

The report goes on to make a series of recommendations for how to reverse the trend, including statutory and regulatory changes at the federal, state and local levels; modifying the FDA process of authorizing prescription opioids for manufacturing, marketing, and labeling; and at the state level enacting E-Prescribing rather than written prescriptions.

Man claims he lured, strangled Etan Patz

Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- A New Jersey man being interviewed by detectives as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of 6-year-old Etan Patz claims he lured and strangled the child 33 years ago.

Detectives who are questioning Pedro Hernandez are cautiously optimistic he is linked to Patz' disappearance in 1979, but they are not yet ready to charge him. A law enforcement official says he has implicated himself and has been tied to the case in the past.

Hernandez, who was picked up at his Camden area home Wednesday, reportedly says he strangled Patz and put his body in a box to dispose of it. Prosecutors are attempting to verify if it's possible that his claims match the known fact pattern.

One source has said that some of the suspect's statements contradict known facts, but adds that is not a reason to discount the bulk of his remarks.

Hernandez is being questioned in Lower Manhattan by NYPD detectives and investigators with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

He was in his 20s or 30s at the time of the disappearance and had a connection to the SoHo neighborhood where Patz vanished as he walked to the school bus. He says he was working in a bodega at the time.

There was an exhaustive search by the police and a crush of media attention. The boy's photo was one of the first of a missing child on a milk carton. Thousands of fliers were plastered around the city, buildings were canvassed and hundreds of people were interviewed. Now, police may have the break they have desperately searched for.

"An individual now in custody has made statements to NYPD detectives implicating himself in the disappearance and death of Etan Patz 33 years ago," NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said in a statement. "We expect to provide further details later today."

Last month, investigators dug up a SoHo basement for possible Patz remains. After a four-day search, they announced nothing conclusive was found, including any skeletal or human remains. Officials say the man in custody was not linked to the basement search.

Friday is the anniversary of the boy's disappearance, when detectives traditionally receive a landslide of hoaxes and false leads related to the case.

Artist arrested in 'I Love NY' bomb scare released

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A Brooklyn artist is out of jail Thursaday after police confused his art installation with a bomb.

Takeshi Miyakawa says he was doing as he always as has an artist - spreading a message of love and joy.

The problem is that his art, in this case, an "I love New York" logo on a plastic bag, had wires coming out of it. When he hung it in Williamsburg without a permit, some wondered if it might be a bomb.

"I thought it was beautiful," he said. "I didn't think of that at all."

The wires led to a battery that powered some LED lights that illuminated the bag. Police caught him hanging the display early Saturday morning and shut down and evacuated the nearby area. They then arrested Miyakawa, and the bomb squad was called in.

Miyakawa was charged with planting a fake bomb and reckless endangerment. Attorney Deborah Blum is very hopeful of a positive outcome.

Miyakawa is an artist with a large following and has no discernable radical views.

However if artists must suffer for their art, after four days in jail, Miyakawa qualifies.

Search intensifies for missing student

By YUNJI DE NEIS | Good Morning America – 8 hours agoDozens of people gathered to ride the route presumably taken by missing Louisiana college student Michaela "Mickey" Shunick when she vanished on her bike last Saturday.

Friends and searchers took to the route at dusk Thursday, following the path on which Shunick set out in the early hours of Saturday morning. FBI, U.S. Marshals and local police are involved in the search that they are treating as a missing-person case, but have not ruled out foul play.

Shunick, 22, a senior anthropology major at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, left friend Brettly Wilson's house on her bike just before 2 a.m. Saturday after a night out, and hasn't been heard from since.

"I asked her to be safe ... I saw her get to the driveway and that was the last time I saw her," Wilson said.

Friends and family held a candle light vigil Tuesday night, and announced a reward of $20,000 for tips leading to her whereabouts. Searches by K-9 units, police and volunteers have turned up no hints of what happened, but her family remains hopeful.

"I think she's OK, I think she's alive. I think she's out there," Mickey's sister, Charlene, told ABC affiliate KATC-TV in Lafayette, La.

The FBI, state and local police, and nearly a thousand volunteers are searching this morning, but have found no trace of the young woman. Friends say she wasn't drinking, and that Shunick was an avid cyclist, so riding her bike at that hour was not unusual.

Shunick's older sister says she never would have left on her own, and that Saturday was her brother's graduation. Monday was Mickey's own 22nd birthday, and the two had big plans.

"She's my mini-me. She's one of my best friends and I just miss her and I want to know what's going on," sister Charlie Shunick said through tears.

For her father, not knowing is the hardest part.

"If she has been taken by somebody, where is she? What are they doing to her? It's better being around people like over here. It's tougher when you're alone at night," Tom Shunick told ABC News.

Her family says they can't think of any reason anybody might want to harm Shunick, and her father said although he's grateful for the search efforts, he wishes the search had started earlier.

"None of the video cameras got checked over the weekend because the managers weren't in and waited two days to check the video cameras," he told Lafayette newspaper The Advertiser. "If somebody has abducted her and taken her on the interstate [highway] or something, they got a two-day head start."

Mickey Shunick always carried mace when she rode her bike, her family says, adding that they will keep searching, no matter how long it takes.

"We're going to see her soon, we're going to get her home and this is going to be over soon," friend Wilson said.

Shunick's family is offering a $25,000 reward for any information in the case. They say that they hope everyone is on the lookout for her, including those in states that border Louisiana.

The family plans to send out a robo-call today to the entire parish -- which consists of hundreds of thousands of people in the region -- hoping that someone knows where Mickey is.

Shunick is 5-foot-1 and 115 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pastel multi-colored striped shirt, light-wash skinny jeans and gray shoes.

Mayor to stop using heliport on weekends

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Following an Eyewitness News Investigation, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office says he will no longer use the heliport on weekends.

"While the heliport's waiting rooms are closed on weekends and you can't get fuel, we always thought that pilots could still take off and land - a courtesy that it turns out had been extended to Mayors over the years," the mayor's spokesperson Stu Loeser said.

Jim Hoffer reported in a two part investigation that Mayor Bloomberg had been using the heliport during off-hours. Below is the second part of that investigation. You can watch both reports in the video player above.

---

Two Billionaires: One, the Mayor of a large city. The other is owner of a huge industrial empire. Both seem to fly by their own set of rules when using the East 34th Street Heliport.

"Helicopter landing before 8:00 a.m.," Amy Sticco said.

Billionaire Ira Rennert's huge helicopter breaks an early morning curfew, it's massive engines and rotor blades whipping up noise and fumes before the heliport's 8:00 a.m. opening.

"It's humongous. And when it lands, it shakes the windows the noise is just unbelievable," Ron Sticco said.

The Sticcos have had it with wealthy helicopter owners violating the noise curfew. In an earlier investigation, we showed how the city's billionaire Mayor repeatedly ignores the weekend curfew. On weekdays, though, it is Rennert's chopper violating the rules and rattling residents.

"30 minutes before the heliport opens," Amy said.

The Sticcos have captured Rennert's helicopter breaking curfew at least 9 times. On video, the silver-haired Billionaire is seen getting into his huge chopper 30 minutes before the heliport opens. Perhaps he's headed to his home in the Hamptons, believed to be the largest residential compound in the nation:

"Invariably, it's before the opening hours of the heliport and the worst part about that it's the loudest helicopter we've seen land on this heliport and the biggest," Amy said.

But back to the other billionaire, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who seems to think the heliport is his own private landing pad, especially on weekends. The Sticcos captured him violating the weekend noise curfew 16 times, often with his girlfriend and dogs along for the ride.

"My understanding, it's not closed on the weekends," Bloomberg said.

How could the Mayor be so misinformed about a city-imposed curfew that's spelled out in the heliport's own chart to pilots.

"I've been using it and I have a lot of things to do. I'm trying like everyone else. The heliport is there. It's available to land and to take off from," Mayor Bloomberg said.

"We've seen him bend rules more than once. This is for his own convenience. It's not for the residents," Public Advocate Bill DeBlasio said.

DeBlasio says the Mayor needs to follow the rules.

"For the mayor to act like he can be held to a different standard whenever it's convenient for him and use the heliport when no one can is ridiculous," he said.

Grandmother accused of shooting grandson 8 times

AP  COREY WILLIAMSBLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Jonathan Hoffman frantically told a 911 dispatcher he had been shot in the chest by his grandmother and was going to die, a police detective testified Monday.

By the time officers arrived at the family's upscale condo in a Detroit suburb, at least four more shots from a .40-caliber handgun had been pumped into the 17-year-old high school senior.

A West Bloomfield Township detective told a judge during Monday's arraignment for 74-year-old Sandra Layne that eight entry and exit wounds were found in Hoffman's body after the Friday afternoon shooting.

Layne has been charged with open murder and held without bond. She stood mute in court when the charge was read, and a not guilty plea was entered on her behalf. An open murder charge allows a jury to decide on whether a first- or second-degree charge applies after hearing evidence.

Hoffman had been attending an alternative high school in nearby Farmington and living with his maternal grandparents so he could complete his senior year while his divorced parents settled in Arizona, according to his father, Michael Hoffman of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Layne's attorneys have said there were problems at the condo, and Layne was afraid of her grandson. One of her attorneys, Mitchell Ribitwer, told reporters Monday that drugs and drug paraphernalia apparently belonging to the teen were found at the condo after Hoffman was killed.

Michael Hoffman said that regardless of his son's behavior, the teen was unarmed and didn't deserve to be shot to death.

Detective Brad Boulet testified about Hoffman's 911 call and said when officers arrived at the condo, Layne was inside, behind a screened door.

"She put the gun on the floor after being ordered so by officers," Boulet said. "She exclaimed she had just murdered her grandson."

Wearing an orange jumpsuit in court, Layne smiled and nodded to her husband and other family members.

Ribitwer described her to the judge as a retired teacher who has lived in the West Bloomfield area for 30 years. His requests for a reasonable bond and electronic tether monitor for Layne were denied. A pre-examination conference for Layne was set for Thursday morning.

Prosecutors had no comment after the hearing. Layne's husband and other relatives attended the hearing but also didn't comment.

Police had responded in March to a domestic disturbance at Layne's home.

"I spoke to the officer who responded, and he indicated this young man was totally out of control in the street," defense attorney Ribitwer told reporters Monday. "He was derogatory to his grandmother. He was yelling and shouting and almost got into it with the police."

Jonathan Hoffman's funeral is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Bar Refaeli, Leonardo DiCaprio's ex-girlfriend, tops Maxim's Hot 100 list

Bar Refaeli, a model and Leonardo DiCaprio's ex-girlfriend, was honored with the top spot on Maxim magazine's Hot 100 list this week.

"I am shocked that among all these beautiful ladies, I'm No. 1," Refaeli told Maxim. "Thank you so much for voting for me! I'm truly honored. This is a title I will never forget."

"Maxim readers not only appreciate a beautiful-looking woman," Maxim Editor Dan Bova told USA Today. "They like women who have a great sense of fun, who are kind of like guy's guys. A lot of these women are in comedies or are just big personalities. They're not above it all. They like to do silly things. And I think our guys respond to a woman who is not only beautiful, she's also approachable. She would probably be the coolest person on Earth to hang out with."

Other stars who made this year's list include Olivia Munn, Mila Kunis, Katy Perry, Olivia Wilde, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone and Megan Fox. For the first time in Hot 100 history, readers could vote on the list and make their own write-ins, which led to a few surprising results, like "Family Guy" cartoon matriarch Lois Griffin, one-time murder suspect Amanda Knox and Stephen Colbert (no, really - he's No. 69). See the full list here.

"The Colbert Nation turned out in force," Bova said. "As we say: Democracy isn't pretty, but this time, it was downright handsome."

Some celebrities who have topped the list in past years include Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Olivia Wilde, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson and Eva Longoria, who won twice.

The Hot 100 list will appear in Maxim's June issue, which is slated to his newsstands on May 29.

Refaeli made headlines earlier in the month after joining Facebook and posting a photo of herself jumping topless. In the picture, taken on a beach, she wears bikini bottoms and a big smile and holds her hands over her chest while airborne. Rocks on the sand spell out "GO BAR."

The 26-year-old model, who has appeared in Sports Illustrated's annual Swimsuit Issue, recently launched her own underwear line, Under.Me. She has also added another project to her busy schedule.

"I'm shooting a movie... It's basically- 2 hours work and 10 hours wait a day!!" she Tweeted on Wednesday, without elaborating.

The supermodel, who is also known as the ex-girlfriend of actor Leonardo DiCaprio, has appeared in a 2011 independent drama film called "Session" and on an Israeli television show in 2005.

Battle brewing over brunch law in Brooklyn

See it on TV? Check here.  Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- There is a brunch battle underway in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where sidewalk cafes have been getting hit with summonses for setting up tables too early on Sundays.

The law prohibiting tables on the sidewalk before noon on Sundays has been in place city-wide since the 1970s, but it has rarely been enforced. In fact, cafe owners didn't even know they were breaking the law until Community Board 1 asked the city to crack down.

On any given Sunday, Greenpoint restaurants are bustling with the brunch crowd. Several weeks ago, hot spots like Five Leaves and Lokal were surprised to receive summonses saying that they were breaking the law by having tables out before noon. Ever since then, they have limited their brunch.

"Of course it is hurting our business, because we have 14 tables outside and we can't use them," Lokal manager Serkan Uzel said. "Brunch is very important, especially for this restaurant. It's a very important time."

The community board spearheaded the crackdown, citing complaints from churchgoers about crowded sidewalks. But New York City Councilman Steve Levin says he is unaware of any issues.

"I have reached out to a number of religious leaders, and they told me, basically, we want people to eat when they're hungry," he said.

In fact, pushing the time back to noon for brunch may have resulted in more sidewalk congestion.

"I think there is actually more congestion now, with waiting outside," resident Katherine Kerrick said. "And there's more people standing right there, and I think it's more difficult for people to get in, as opposed to if people are sitting and decide to give some space."

Levin is currently working with the Department of Consumer Affairs to update the law, and craft legislation to allow sidewalk cafes to open before noon.

Woman claims she was fired for being 'too hot'

See it on TV? Check here.new york city, sex discrimination, lawsuit, labor law, layoff, legal, labor dispute, job, style, new york news, kemberly richardson NEW YORK (WABC) -- In a bizarre and bitter lawsuit, a woman who worked at a business in midtown Manhattan is suing her bosses. She claims she was fired for being "too hot" at work.

"When my supervisor asked me to tape down my breasts, I asked my supervisor, are you kidding?" former employee Lauren Odes said.

The 29-year-old Odes said it wasn't a joke, and she was appalled by the suggestion and what happened at the 5th Avenue headquarters of Native Intimate's, a wholesale lingerie business. According to Odes' attorney, Gloria Allred, "The treatment was discriminatory, profoundly humiliating and unlawful."

The allegations of gender and religious discrimination were spelled out in the complaint currently filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The voluptuous blond was hired April 24 to coordinate shipments of sample to customers and maintained that her supervisors repeatedly complained about her physical appearance and attire, even though she insists there was no dress code, co-workers wore tank tops, and were casually dressed.

She wore a short sleeve purple dress on day two of her job and was allegedly told that the company's Orthodox Jewish Owners felt the piece was drawing too much attention and should not be worn for her "own safety."

The following Monday, she tried a hooded top, but the outfit was still criticized. On the fifth day, she wore a knee-length black dress with a shawl over it hoping to please her bosses, instead they told to wear a red bathrobe, which she took a picture of her wearing it in the ladies room.

"I felt ridiculous and extremely embarrassed, others in the office were laughing and asking why I was wearing it and I told them what I was told," Odes said.

Odes took off the robe and went to buy yet another outfit that she thought would be appropriate, but instead got a phone call saying she was fired, she feels because of the size of her breast and shape of her body.

"I do not feel an employer has the right to impose their religious beliefs on me when I'm working in a business that's not a synagogue, but sells things with hearts on the female genitals and boy shorts for women that say hot in the buttocks area," she said.
