Kate Middleton 'bottomless' photos published in Danish magazine

Kate Middleton most likely hoped that her topless photo scandal is a thing of the past, but now a Danish magazine has published "bottomless" photos of the royal.

The new photos, published in the Danish magazine Se og Hor and leaked to the web this week, show the Duchess of Cambridge trying to put on a pair of bikini bottoms with a towel wrapped around her shoulders. The photos are from the same set of topless photos first published two weeks ago in the French magazine, Closer and later re-printed in Italy, Ireland and widely across the internet.

"It's a set of unique photos from an A-class celebrity. We are a leading gossip magazine in Denmark, and it is my job to publish them," Se og Hor's editor told the Belfast Telegraph before the issue came out. "If the British royal family want to sue us, then it will happen then and we'll deal with it."

Middleton won an injunction against Closer, halting distribution of the photos which were taken while she and Prince William were on a balcony in Southern France, during a private vacation earlier in the month.

Per the ruling, Closer had to hand over digital copies of the unauthorized photos within 24 hours. The court also stopped the magazine from republishing the pictures - including on its website and its tablet app - as well as re-selling them. The court also imposed a $2,500 fine and blocked further publication of the photos. The ruling only affects the French magazine branch of Mondadori, Closer's publisher. Mondadori faces a daily fine of euro10,000 ($13,100) if it fails to do so.

"These snapshots which showed the intimacy of a couple, partially naked on the terrace of a private home, surrounded by a park several hundred meters from a public road, and being able to legitimately assume that they are protected from passers-by, are by nature particularly intrusive," the French ruling said, according to the Associated Press. "(They) were thus subjected to this brutal display the moment the cover appeared."

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcome the judge's ruling," a spokesperson for the royal couple said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com.

The royal couple is also filing a criminal complaint against 'X' - the unnamed photographer who took the picture in hopes to get the identity of the mystery photographer and prevent him or her from selling the photos to new outlets. The photographer could face a significant fine and a year in prison if the case goes forward.

Joe Little, the managing editor of Majesty magazine told The Associated Press that the royal family swiftly enforced legal again in the case because "they wanted to set a benchmark for the future."

Little speculated that the quick legal action also reflected Prince William's desire to not let the press to harass Kate Middleton in the same manor that they harassed his late mother Princess Diana. Princess Diana was killed in 1997, when she was fatally injured in a car crash after being chased by paparazzi in Paris.

In 1994, Britain newspaper editors refused to publish topless photos of Princess Diana that were offered by a Spanish press agency, saying they wanted to respect. They were taken while she was sunbathing in a hotel in Malaga, Spain.

Last year, Middleton's younger sister Pippa also faced a topless photo scandal.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and the Palace ended their complaint against British tabloid The Sun, which printed naked photos of the royal in Las Vegas.

Chemistry lab scandal could affect thousands of cases

AP  By DENISE LAVOIEBOSTON -- A chemist accused of lying about drug samples she tested at a state lab could face additional charges as prosecutors and defense attorneys sift through thousands of criminal cases that could be upended by her actions.

Annie Dookhan, 34, of Franklin, was arrested Friday in a burgeoning investigation that has already led to the shutdown of the lab, the resignation of the state's public health commissioner and the release of more than a dozen drug defendants.

Many more defendants are expected to be released. Authorities say more than 1,100 inmates are serving time in cases in which Dookhan was the primary or secondary chemist.

"Annie Dookhan's alleged actions corrupted the integrity of the entire criminal justice system," state Attorney General Martha Coakley said during a news conference after Dookhan's arrest. "There are many victims as a result of this."

Dookhan faces more than 20 years in prison on charges of obstruction of justice and falsely pretending to hold a degree from a college or university. She testified under oath that she holds a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, but school officials say they have no record of her receiving an advanced degree or taking graduate courses there.

State police say Dookhan tested more than 60,000 drug samples involving 34,000 defendants during her nine years at the Hinton State Laboratory Institute in Boston. Defense lawyers and prosecutors are scrambling to figure out how to deal with the fallout.

Assistant Attorney General John Verner called the charges against Dookhan "preliminary" and said a "much broader" investigation is being conducted.

Verner said state police learned of Dookhan's alleged actions in July after they interviewed a chemist at the lab who said he had observed "many irregularities" in Dookhan's work.

Verner said Dookhan later acknowledged to state police that she sometimes would take 15 to 25 samples and instead of testing them all, she would test only five of them, then list them all as positive. She said that sometimes, if a sample tested negative, she would take known cocaine from another sample and add it to the negative sample to make it test positive for cocaine, Verner said.

Dookhan pleaded not guilty and was later released on $10,000 bail. She was ordered to turn over her passport, submit to GPS monitoring, and not have contact with any former or current employees of the lab.

Dookhan's relatives and attorney declined to comment after the brief hearing in Boston Municipal Court. Her next court date is Dec. 3.

The obstruction charges accuse Dookhan of lying about drug samples she analyzed at the lab in March 2011 for a Suffolk County case, and for testifying under oath in August 2010 that she had an advanced degree from the University of Massachusetts, Attorney General Martha Coakley said at a news conference.

In one of the cases, Boston police had tested a substance as negative for cocaine, but when Dookhan tested it, she reported it as positive. Investigators later retested the cample and it came back negative, Verner said.

The only motive authorities have found so far is that Dookhan wanted to be seen as a good worker, Coakley said.

According to a state police report in August, Dookhan said she just wanted to get the work done and never meant to hurt anyone.

"I screwed up big-time," she is quoted as saying. "I messed up bad; it's my fault. I don't want the lab to get in trouble."

Dookhan's supervisors have faced harsh criticism for not removing her from lab duties after suspicions about her were first raised by her co-workers and for not alerting prosecutors and police. However, Coakley said, there is no indication so far of criminal activity by anyone else at the lab.

Co-workers began expressing concern about Dookhan's work habits several years ago, but her supervisors allowed her to continue working. Dookhan was the most productive chemist in the lab, routinely testing more than 500 samples a month, while others tested 50 to 150.

One co-worker told state police he never saw Dookhan in front of a microscope. A lab employee saw Dookhan weighing drug samples without doing a balance check on her scale.

In an interview with state police late last month, Dookhan acknowledged faking test results for two to three years. She told police she identified some drug samples as narcotics simply by looking at them instead of testing them, a process known as dry labbing. She also said she forged the initials of colleagues and deliberately turned a negative sample into a positive for narcotics a few times.

"I hope the system isn't treating the evidence against her the way she treated the evidence against several thousand defendants," said defense attorney John T. Martin, who has a client who was allowed to withdraw his guilty plea based on concerns over Dookhan's work.

Dookhan was suspended from lab duties after getting caught forging a colleague's initials on paperwork in June 2011. She resigned in March as the Department of Public Health investigated. The lab was run by the department until July 1, when state police took over as part of a state budget directive.

It's official: NFL refs approve deal with league

AP  By SCHUYLER DIXONIRVING, Texas -- NFL referees voted and approved a new eight-year deal with the league on Saturday. Now they all can get back to the business of calling games.

Referees approved the contract by a 112-5 vote, officially ending a lockout that led to a rising chorus of complaints from players, coaches, fans and politicians. The next stop for the refs who gathered in Irving, Texas, was the airport, where most were to hop on planes taking them straight to their Sunday game sites.

The deal came quickly after three weeks of escalating difficulties for league-hired replacement refs, culminating in a disputed touchdown call that decided Monday night's Packers-Seahawks game. With a tentative deal in place, league referees returned to cheers at Thursday night's game between Cleveland and Baltimore.

The tentative contract called for refs' salaries to increase from an average of $149,000 a year in 2011 to $173,000 in 2013, rising to $205,000 by 2019. The current defined benefit pension plan will remain in place for current officials through the 2016 season or until the official earns 20 years' service.

The defined benefit plan will then be frozen. Retirement benefits will be provided for new hires, and for all officials beginning in 2017, through a defined contribution arrangement.

Beginning with the 2013 season, the NFL will have the option to hire a number of officials to work year-round. The NFL also will be able to retain additional officials for training and development and can assign those officials to work games. The number of additional officials will be determined by the league.

Monday night's game ended in chaos after replacement refs called a touchdown catch for the Seahawks instead of a Packers interception. Many fans and commentators - and players in the league - thought the call was botched. Criticism of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the league kept escalating, and the labor dispute drew public comments from both President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney. By late Wednesday, both sides had a deal.

"It's all history now," head linesman Tom Stabile said Friday. "For us, it was a benefit. It may have been the straw that broke the camel's back."

Line judge Jeff Bergman said he could see Monday night's play coming as he watched at home. He noticed that players were starting to take advantage of replacement officials struggling to keep control of the game.

"The last play of the game was something that was going to happen sooner or later," Bergman said. "It gave us and the league an opportunity to get together and hammer out a deal that was going to get hammered out anyway."

Referee Ed Hochuli, who led weekly tests and conference calls for officials to stay sharp during the lockout, declined to say whether the replacements made the right call.

"You really don't want to see that," Hochuli said. "You don't want to see the controversy. You don't want to see teams lose games that they shouldn't have lost, if indeed that's what happened. We're not making a judgment on that."

Now, the refs have to get used to being fan favorites.

The officials that worked Thursday night's Ravens-Browns game were cheered from the moment they walked onto the field. The difference between the regular crew and replacements was clear. The officials kept the game in control, curtailing the chippy play and choppy pace that had marred the first three weeks of the regular season.

Officials on Friday said they were ready for applause - and ready for when it inevitably disappears.

"After the euphoria of the moment wears off, probably sometime early in the second quarter, it'll be back to regular NFL football mode," said referee Gene Steratore, who will head to Green Bay for Sunday's game, one week after Packers players ripped the replacements over Monday's disputed touchdown. "Players will be questioning our judgment, our ancestry. Coaches will be screaming at us. And it'll be life as back to normal on Sundays."

Sulzberger has died at age 86. The newspaper reports that his family says Sulzberger died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at his home in Southampton, N.Y., after a long illness. He had retired in 1992 after three decades at the paper's helm and was succeeded by his son, Arthur Jr.

AP  Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK -- Former New York Times publisher Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, who led the newspaper to new levels of influence and profit amid some of the most significant moments in 20th-century journalism, died Saturday. He was 86.

Sulzberger, father of current Times publisher Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr., died at his home in Southampton, N.Y., after a long illness, his family announced to the newspaper.

During his three-decade-long tenure, the newspaper won 31 Pulitzer prizes, published the Pentagon Papers and won a libel case victory in New York Times vs. Sullivan that established important First Amendment protections for the press.

In an era of declining newspaper readership, the Times' weekday circulation climbed from 714,000 when Sulzberger became publisher in 1963 to 1.1 million upon his retirement as publisher in 1992. Over the same period, the annual revenues of the Times' corporate parent rose from $100 million to $1.7 billion.

"Above all, he took the quality of the product up to an entirely new level," the late Katharine Graham, chairwoman of The Washington Post Co., said at the time Sulzberger relinquished the publisher's title. When she died in 2001, he returned the praise, saying she "used her intelligence, her courage and her wit to transform the landscape of American journalism."

"Punch" Sulzberger was the only grandson of Adolph S. Ochs (pronounced ox), the son of Bavarian immigrants who took over the Times in 1896 and built it into the nation's most influential newspaper. The family retains a controlling interest to this day, holding a separate block of Class B shares that have more powerful voting rights than the company's publicly traded shares.

Power was thrust on Sulzberger at the age of 37 after the sudden death of his brother-in-law in 1963. He had been in the Times executive suite for eight years in a role he later described as "vice president in charge of nothing."

But Sulzberger directed the Times' evolution from an encyclopedic paper of record to a more reader-friendly product that reached into the suburbs and across the nation.

During his tenure, the Times started a national edition, bought its first color presses, and introduced popular as well as lucrative new sections covering topics such as science, food and entertainment.

A key figure in the transformation was A.M. Rosenthal, executive editor from 1977 to 1986. Rosenthal, who died in 2006, called Sulzberger "probably the best publisher in modern American history."

Sulzberger also improved the paper's bottom line, pulling it and its parent company out of a tailspin in the mid-1970s and lifting both to unprecedented profitability a decade later.

In 1992, Sulzberger relinquished the publisher's job to his 40-year-old son, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr., but remained chairman of The New York Times Co.

Sulzberger retired as chairman and chief executive of the company in 1997. His son then was named chairman. Sulzberger stayed on the Times Co. board of directors until 2002.

Significant free-press and free-speech precedents were established during Sulzberger's years as publisher, most notably the Times vs. Sullivan case. It resulted in a landmark 1964 Supreme Court ruling that shielded the press from libel lawsuits by public officials unless they could prove actual malice.

In 1971 the Times led the First Amendment fight to keep the government from suppressing the Pentagon Papers, a series of classified reports on the Vietnam War. Asked by a reporter who at the Times made the decision to publish the papers, Sulzberger gestured toward his chest and silently mouthed the word "Me."

Sulzberger read the more than 7,000 pages of the Pentagon Papers before deciding to publish them. After Sulzberger read the papers, he was asked what he thought. "Oh, I would think about 20 years to life," he responded.

But in a landmark decision, the U.S. Supreme Court eventually sided with the Times and The Washington Post, which had begun publishing the papers a few days after the Times.

Gay Talese, who worked at the Times as a reporter when Sulzberger took over and chronicled the paper's history in his book "The Kingdom and the Power," called him "a brilliant publisher. He far exceeded the achievements of his father in both making the paper better and more profitable at a time when papers are not as good as they used to be."

In their book "The Trust," a history of the Ochs-Sulzberger family and its stewardship of the paper, Susan E. Tifft and Alex S. Jones cited Sulzberger's "common sense and unerring instincts."

In an interview in 1990 with New York magazine, Sulzberger was typically candid about the paper's readership.

"We're not New York's hometown newspaper," he said. "We're read on Park Avenue, but we don't do well in Chinatown or the east Bronx. We have to approach journalism differently than, say, the Sarasota Herald Tribune, where you try to blanket the community."

In the mid-1980s Sulzberger authorized the building of a $450 million color printing and distribution plant across the Hudson River in Edison, N.J., part of a plan to get all printing out of cramped facilities in the Times building in Manhattan.

Sulzberger was born in New York City on Feb. 5, 1926, the only son of Arthur Hays Sulzberger and his wife, Iphigene Ochs Sulzberger, Adolph's only child. One of his three sisters was named Judy, and from early on he was known as "Punch," from the puppet characters Punch and Judy.

Sulzberger's grandfather led the paper until his death in 1935, when he was followed by Sulzberger's father, who remained at the helm until he retired in 1961.

Meanwhile, Arthur served in the Marines during World War II and, briefly, in Korea. He later observed, in a typically self-deprecating remark, that "My family didn't worry about me for a minute. They knew that if I got shot in the head it wouldn't do any harm."

Except for a year at The Milwaukee Journal, 1953-54, the younger Sulzberger spent his entire career at the family paper. He joined after graduating from Columbia College in 1951. He worked in European bureaus for a time and was he was back in New York by 1955, but found he had little to do.

Sulzberger had not been expected to assume power at the paper for years. His father passed control to Orvil E. Dryfoos, his oldest daughter's husband, in 1961. But two years later Dryfoos died suddenly of heart disease at 50. Punch Sulzberger's parents named him publisher, the fourth family member to hold the title.

"We had all hoped that Punch would have many years more training before having to take over," said his mother, Iphigene. Sulzberger relied on senior editors and managers for advice, and quickly developed a reputation as a solid leader.

At various times, Sulzberger was a director or chairman of the Newspaper Advertising Bureau, American Newspaper Publishers Association and American Press Institute. He was a director of The Associated Press from 1975 to 1984.

Sulzberger married Barbara Grant in 1948, and the couple had two children, Arthur Jr. and Karen. After a divorce in 1956, Sulzberger married Carol Fox. The couple had a daughter, Cynthia, and Sulzberger adopted Fox's daughter from a previous marriage, Cathy.

Carol Sulzberger died in 1995. The following year, Sulzberger married Allison Cowles, the widow of William H. Cowles 3rd, who was the president and publisher of The Spokesman-Review and Spokane Chronicle of Spokane, Wash.

Woman, child seriously hurt when car hits home

Web produced by Bill King, Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- An out-of-control car slammed into a home on Staten Island early Friday, seriously injuring a woman and a child.

The 2010 Hyundai Elantra careened into the small house on Arthur Kill Road and Lee Avenue in Tottenville at around 4:10 a.m.

Lisa Roman, 40, and her 5-year-old daughter Leonora were both trapped under the vehicle for at least 20 minutes and had to be extricated. "It was horrible, like a worst nightmare," daughter Joziey Roman said.

It wasn't even the crash that echoes through Joziey's mind, but the desperate cries that came soon after.

"Me and my sister were sleeping in the other room, and we heard my mom screaming, 'Help, help, I'm stuck, help!'" she said.

Both were rushed to Staten Island University Hospital North, where they are listed in critical but stable condition.

Lisa Roman suffered burns to her body and is at the hospital's burn center. Leonora suffered fractures of the face and body and is the pediatric intensive care unit.

The victims were reportedly sleeping at the time of the crash.

"We said stay strong, stay with us, and we were screaming my baby sister's name," daughter Melissa Roman said. "And that's when my mom, she was holding my hand, she was squeezing my hand."

Those who live in neighboring apartments say the entire building shook at the impact.

All we heard was a big, loud bang, and then we just heard a lot of screams," neighbor Dawn Montalvo said. "And when we came outside, there was a lot of smoke and the girls were outside screaming and telling us that her mom and sister were pinned under the car."

Several neighbors were evacuated while they waited for the buildings department to evaluate structural integrity of the house.

Police say the 22-year-old driver of the car was taken into custody and is charged with vehicular assault and driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

He may also have been speeding and ran a stop sign before the crash.

"The guy was like, 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I lost control,'" Joziey said.

The apology was was hard to accept for a family that lost their home and almost lost so much more.

Witnesses say this is not the first time a vehicle has struck the same house. In August, 2002, a Tottenville man plowed his monster truck into the home, coming to a stop two feet from where resident at the time, Eleanor Rohrig, was sleeping.

Teacher in group sex scandal says she is victim

It was perhaps the most salacious part of one of the most scandalous student-teacher affair stories in history: a video, taken by a cellphone camera, of then-Texas high school teacher Brittni Colleps having group sex with four 18- and 19-year-old students at her suburban home.

But Colleps, who is 28 and the mother of three young children, says that video -- taken by one of the students -- makes her a victim.

"I felt like I was victimized in that video, because I did not, I never gave my consent for it," Colleps told "20/20" correspondent Deborah Roberts in an exclusive jailhouse interview airing tonight on "20/20." Roberts also spoke exclusively to Colleps' husband, Christopher, who explained why he is standing by his wife.

PHOTOS: Teachers Accused of Sex With Students

In August, a jury convicted Colleps on 16 counts of having improper relationships with students. Though the students with whom she had sex -- there were five -- were all older than the minimum age of consent in Texas, state law prohibits any educator in a primary or secondary school from having sex with any enrolled student, no matter their age.

Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Beach prosecuted Colleps' case and defended the law in an interview with "20/20."

"Who has more power in the classroom?" she asked. "Does the teacher have more power or does the students have more power? The teacher has more power. And so the teacher can use that power to sexually exploit students in the classroom, even if those students are 18 years old."

The story of how Colleps went from popular teacher to convicted felon begins with a seemingly innocent text message -- one sent by Colleps to a school athlete asking what time a baseball game was starting.

But in the weeks that followed, as court documents would show, Colleps exchanged 300 pages worth of text messages with the student, most of which were sexual in nature.

"Sitting in the classroom, she goes into these very specific sexual text messages about the things she wants him to do to her body," Beach said. The texts included messages like "I'm an anything goes in sex kinda girl" and "I like pullin' hair, bitin', scratchin', spanking, I even like being choked."

In April 2011, Colleps invited the athlete to her home to watch a movie. They ended up having sex, and the student reportedly returned to her home at least four more times.

The following May, he brought three friends -- all football players -- to Colleps' home for dinner.

But prosecutors say the students got more than just a home-cooked meal. Colleps reportedly put on lingerie, brought out sex toys and led the four young men to her bedroom.

"And she's performing one sex act on one student, and she is simultaneously performing another sex act on another student, and she has farmed out her kids for the night so that she can have four students in, and engage in what is more or less an orgy," Beach said.

That was when one of the students captured the trysts on a cellphone camera, and he didn't keep it to himself. It soon became fodder for hallway gossip that spread to administrators at Colleps' school. Colleps was called to the principal's office and, five days later, arrested.

Last month, before the jury convicted her, it heard explicit and damning testimony.

"She said that she craved...that I had something she wanted," one of Colleps' teenage sex partners testified.

Reese Witherspoon welcomes baby boy with husband Jim Toth

Reese Witherspoon welcomed her third child, a son, on Thursday, September 27. The baby is her first child with husband Jim Toth.

Witherspoon, 36, and Toth named the baby Tennessee James Toth, Witherspoon's spokesperson said in a statement to The Associated Press. "Both mom and baby are healthy and the entire family is thrilled," the statement said.

Though Witherspoon was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the actress lived in Nashville, Tennessee when she was a child.

The actress and Toth, an agent for Creative Artists Agency, wed in March 2011. She was previously married to actor Ryan Phillippe from 1999 to 2006. The actors are parents to daughter Ava, 13, and son Deacon, 8.

The actress, who appeared earlier this year in "This Means War," stars in "Mud." Matthew McConaughey portrays an escaped fugitive named Mud who is hiding on an island in the Mississippi River and with the help of two teenage boys, tries to evade bounty hunters and track down his true love (Witherspoon).

Opening night for Barclays Center in Brooklyn

Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- After years of planning, construction and protests, it is finally opening night for the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn's own Jay-Z will christen the new entertainment center with eight sold-out concerts.

"This is a great thing for New York City, and that's what the whole thing was about," he said. But not everyone is happy about the new venue. Many who opposed the arena have made their peace with it, but not everyone.

They are fuming, especially those who were forced from their homes to make way for the arena. Others are worried about the traffic congestion and parking nightmare that they say will come with games and events.

"Yes, we may need a sports team in Brooklyn," one man said. "There were other places it could have been developed without causing the harm that it has caused."

City Councilman Jumaane Williams was against the arena. Now, he says it's time for the developer to deliver on his promises to the borough.

"I think we have to do our best to figure out what's best for Brooklyn now and really focus on the community benefits agreement," he said. "Make sure those affordable housing units come. Make sure those union jobs come. We should really focus our energy on making that happen."

The arena is stunning and will offer thousands of tickets at low prices. And though the Barclays has its own 40/40 Club and much more, neighborhood businesses look to benefit.

With parking so limited, officials encourage people traveling to the arena to take one of the nine subway lines, 11 bus routes or the Long Island Rail Road that all lead to the area.

Body of missing student from Long Island found

AP  Eyewitness NewsEVANSTON, Ill. -- The body of a Northwestern University student who was last seen leaving a weekend party has been found in a harbor near the school's suburban Chicago campus.

Authorities say the body of 18-year-old sophomore Harsha Maddula, of New Hyde Park, was pulled late Thursday from a harbor in Wilmette, a town north of Evanston.

Northwestern spokesman Alan Cubbage says Maddula's wallet with a university identification card and his cellphone was found on the body, which showed no signs of foul play. He said Wilmette police were notified shortly before 7 p.m. that a body was found by a boater. Wilmette police had no comment.

"On behalf of Northwestern University, I extend our deepest sympathies to Harsha's family and to his many friends at Northwestern. Our hearts and thoughts are with them," University President Morton Schapiro said in a statement released by the university.

Maddula was last seen after midnight Saturday. A relative says he went to the party with several friends and disappeared after he and others left for another party.

Cubbage said police began focusing their search for Maddula at the harbor after a check of activity for his cellphone determined the last signal from it was in that area.

His parents, Prasad Maddula and Dhana Lakshmi Maddula, and other relatives arrived in Evanston on Monday to join the search for the pre-med engineering student, who had been recently diagnosed with diabetes.

Maddula's parents, along with the student's uncle, Sam Maddali, on Wednesday announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the student's whereabouts. They were standing at Wilmette Harbor, where their son's body was found, when they made the announcement.

Man shoots masked teen, discovers it's his son

AP  Eyewitnesss NewsNEW FAIRFIELD -- A man fatally shot a masked teenager in self-defense outside his neighbor's house during what appeared to be an attempted late-night burglary, then discovered the teen was his son, state police said.

Spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said Friday that police are trying to determine if the gun used by Jeffrey Giuliano, the father, was registered. It will be at least a week before the probe is done, he said.

Police said 15-year-old Tyler Giuliano was shot at about 1 a.m. Thursday in New Fairfield, a town along the New York line just north of Danbury.

Jeffrey Giuliano's sister, who was alone in the home, believed someone was breaking in and called Giuliano, who lives next door, state police said. Giuliano grabbed a gun and went outside to investigate, troopers said.

He confronted someone wearing a black ski mask and black clothing and then fired his gun when the person went at him with a shiny weapon in his hand, police said. They would not provide details about what kind of weapon it was.

When police officers arrived almost immediately after they were called, the teen was lying in the driveway of his aunt's home with gunshot wounds and the father was sitting on the grass. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A state trooper pulled back the ski mask to reveal that the victim was Tyler Giuliano, though it was unclear if Jeffrey Giuliano already knew that. It was also unclear if he was actually trying to burglarize the house or if it was some type of prank gone wrong.

"All in all it's a tragedy," Vance said.

Jeffrey Giuliano, a fifth-grade teacher in town, hasn't returned a message seeking comment on what happened.

Tyler Giuliano was a student at New Fairfield High School, a short walk from the neighborhood where he was killed.

Superintendent of Schools Alicia Roy sent parents an email about what happened, The News-Times of Danbury reported.

"Our district has experienced a tragedy that has affected us deeply," she wrote, adding that students weren't told of the killing because all the facts weren't clear.

No charges have been filed. An autopsy is planned.

Justin Bieber mourns 6-year-old fan Avalanna Routh

Justin Bieber mourned the death of one of his biggest fans on Wednesday, September 26, a 6-year-old girl named Avalanna Routh.

Routh was a Massachusetts native who loved Bieber so much she called herself Mrs. Bieber. She battled a rare brain cancer and last year, doctors and nurses organized a pretend wedding to the pop star, according to the Associated Press.

"Our darling Avalanna went to Heaven this morning," a Tweet from her Twitter account, which her family shared, said. "Oh Avalanna, the brightest star - you took our hearts with you, our greatest Love;(."

The pretend wedding, where Routh wore a T-shirt that said "Future Mrs. Bieber," sparked a Facebook campaign to help her meet the singer.

Bieber met Routh in New York earlier this year and the two spent a couple of hours together. They met several times after that initial meeting.

Routh suffered from a fast-growing tumor called an atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor, according to the wire service. The tumor affects the brain and spinal cord and usually occurs in young children. Only 30 new cases are diagnosed in the U.S. each year.

The 18-year-old singer wrote about the news to fans on his Twitter page, writing, "Just got the worst news ever. one of the greatest spirits I have ever known is gone. please pray for her family and for her."

"RIP Avalanna. i love you," he said in another Tweet.

"Please show respect to her and her family. say a prayer for her and for them. i miss her," he later wrote.

Bieber later posted a picture of himself with Routh on his Instagram account with a caption that said, "My angel."

"She was a very courageous young person who lived her life with grace and determination," the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where Routh received treatment, said in a statement. "By generously sharing her story, she raised awareness worldwide about atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumors and articulated the need for greater research of this rare cancer."

Woman arrested, accused of faking cancer

Matt Kozar, Eyewitness NewsDELRAN, N.J. (WABC) -- A woman in New Jersey is charged with faking cancer, and collecting thousands of dollars in donations for her "treatment."

Authorities say 40-year-old Lori Stilley from Delran, New Jersey played the part of a sick cancer patient and had everyone fooled, even her sister.

"She was good. She convinced a lot of people that she was sick," said Lisa DiGiovanni, Stilley's sister.

Lisa DiGiovanni says she was heartbroken when she heard the news.

So, she did what she could to help including fundraisers, T-shirt sales and raffles.

She even helped plan and pay for a wedding between her sister and her boyfriend to grant her dying wish.

"I just felt like I was doing something even though I couldn't help fix her. I tried to be there as much as I could," DiGiovanni said.

DiGiovanni says things just didn't add up.

Like when her sister was preparing for hospice care, but all of the sudden started feel better and canceled the care.

"She came to my daughter's playoff field hockey game and it was very dramatic, in a wheelchair and she was supposed to go in hospice the next day and I was staring at her saying, she doesn't look sick," DiGiovanni said.

She told her friends and family members she had stage three bladder cancer.

Investigators say Stilley even published an e-book about her struggle with the disease.

Rats found roaming around Fairway

Web produced by Jennifer Matarese, Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- At the olive bar in the Fairway Supermarket on the Upper West Side, an unwelcome guest has come to dine.

Glenn Herman was in the store early Wednesday morning when another customer noticed the little rat.

"The gentleman who pointed it out to me, an older gentleman, looked like someone had tazed him," Herman said. And when Eyewitness News started looking online, we saw other videos taken by customers at the store and some still pictures as well.

"Oh, don't show me that," one customer said.

"Where was this?" a man wanted to know.

The store is aware of the problem.

Eyewitness News saw rat traps set both outside and inside the store.

"The manager there did tell me that it is kind of difficult to wipe out the rat problem when they are basically walking through the front door from the subways," Herman said.

Supermarkets like Fairway are inspected by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, just once a year "unless there's something critical to cause reinspection."

In a statement Wednesday night, Fairway said, "We believe the incident was caused by the massive construction that is happening throughout the immediate vicinity of the store. We are now taking comprehensive measures to remedy the situation so that it doesn't happen again."

Joanne Grossman and her husband have seen some of the videos online.

"I said disgusting, but I didn't stop shopping here. But I guess now that I hear they were up on the olives, I'll think about it a little bit more," Grossman said.

Man accused of recording models in dressing room

Eyewitness NewsSOUTHAMPTON (WABC) -- A registered sex offender is accused of hiding a camera inside a dressing room on Long Island.

Police say 51-year-old Robert Liguori, of Mastic Beach, recorded video of female models disrobing in the dressing room in Southampton in July.

At the time, he was taking pictures of the women in swimsuits in the Hamptons for a fashion designer.

Liguori also is accused of exposing himself to a clothing store clerk in Center Moriches earlier this month.

He is charged with unlawful surveillance.

The alleged recording occurred July 12. An intern reportedly found the camera placed on a shelf, pointed at the dressing area. The designer retrieved the footage.

Liguori is registered as a Level 2 sex offender for a conviction in 2000 related to child pornography.

Oregon brewery uses beard yeast for new ale

Eyewitness NewsOREGON (WABC) -- Finding a hair in a drink would gross out most people, but an Oregon beer maker says that's what's supposed to happen with his new brew.

John Maier is an award-winning brewmaster.

He and Rogue Ales Brewery Company president Brett Joyce were looking for a new source of yeast for a new brew.

Now, Maier's "Dead Guy Ale" has a special ingredient - his beard.

Maier is mixing in wild yeast harvested from his whiskers. And he has hair to spare, since he hasn't shaved since 1978.

As a joke, their lab guy took a swab from Maier's beard and found the yeast. Now, the beard beer is fermenting in one of their tanks, with the occasional taste test.

Both men see no reason for beer lovers to be grossed out.

"You're really not drinking a beard," Joyce said. "You're drinking a great beer that happens to have yeast that comes from a beard."

Maier brews 10 beers at the Rogue Ales Brewery in Newport, but he says the shaggy suds are his most popular.

World's tallest Ferris wheel coming to Staten Island

Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is expected to unveil plans Thursday to build the world's tallest Ferris wheel on Staten Island, providing an iconic destination to the city's so-called "forgotten borough."

The project would also bring a retail and hotel complex to the Island's North Shore, and use the Staten Island Ferry to get shoppers there.

It is planned for 14 acres just north of the Richmond County Bank Ballpark, home to the minor-league Staten Island Yankees.

The New York Wheel would cost $230 million and carry 4.5 million riders a year.

At 625 feet, it would be the world's tallest observation wheel, exceeding the height of the Singapore Flyer. It would also be taller than the London Eye and a "High Roller" planned for the Las Vegas Strip.

The wheel would offer plush, enclosed passenger capsules to offer riders a world-class view of the Manhattan skyline.

Officials hope construction on the observation wheel would start in 2014 and be finished in 2015.

An adjacent outlet mall would be the administration's latest attempt to keep cost conscious shoppers from streaming out of the city.

And the city has long been searching for a destination for the two million-plus tourists who ride the Staten Island Ferry every year.

Officials anticipate both projects will pump nearly $500 million in private investment into the Staten Island waterfront.

So long, replacements; NFL reaches deal with refs

AP  BARRY WILNERNEW YORK -- So long, replacement refs. The NFL's regular crews will be back on the field starting Thursday night.

After two days of marathon negotiations - and mounting frustration among coaches, players and fans - the NFL and the referees' union announced at midnight Thursday that a tentative agreement had been reached to end a lockout that began in June.

Commissioner Roger Goodell, who was at the bargaining table Tuesday and Wednesday, said the regular officials would work the Browns-Ravens game at Baltimore.

"Welcome back REFS," Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller tweeted shortly after the news broke.

The replacements worked the first three weeks of games, triggering a wave of outrage that threatened to disrupt the rest of the season. After a missed call cost the Green Bay Packers a win on a chaotic final play at Seattle on Monday night, the two sides really got serious.

"We are glad to be getting back on the field for this week's games," referees' union president Scott Green said.

The tentative eight-year deal is the longest involving on-field officials in NHL history and was reached with the assistance of two federal mediators. It must be ratified by 51 percent of the union's 121 members, who plan to vote Friday and Saturday in Dallas.

The agreement hinged on working out salary, pension and retirement benefits for the officials, who are part-time employees of the league. Tentatively, it calls for their salaries to increase from an average of $149,000 a year in 2011 to $173,000 in 2013, rising to $205,000 by 2019.

Under the proposal, the current defined benefit pension plan will remain in place for current officials through the 2016 season or until the official earns 20 years' service. The defined benefit plan will then be frozen.

Retirement benefits will be provided for new hires, and for all officials beginning in 2017, through a defined contribution arrangement. The annual league contribution made on behalf of each game official will begin with an average of more than $18,000 per official and increase to more than $23,000 per official in 2019.

Beginning with the 2013 season, the NFL will have the option to hire a number of officials on a full-time basis to work year round, including on the field. The NFL also will be able to retain additional officials for training and development, and can assign those officials to work games. The number of additional officials will be determined by the league.

"As you know, this has to be ratified and we know very little about it, but we're excited to be back. And ready," referee Ed Hochuli told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "And I think that's the most important message - that we're ready."

Replacement refs aren't new to the NFL. They worked the first week of games in 2001 before a deal was reached. But those officials came from the highest level of college football; the current replacements do not. Their ability to call fast-moving NFL games drew mounting criticism through Week 3, climaxing last weekend, when ESPN analyst Jon Gruden called their work "tragic and comical."

Those comments came during "Monday Night Football," with Seattle beating Green Bay 14-12 on a desperation pass into the end zone on the final play. Packers safety M.D. Jennings had both hands on the ball in the end zone, and when he fell to the ground in a scrum, both Jennings and Seahawks receiver Golden Tate had their arms on the ball.

The closest official to the play, at the back of the end zone, signaled for the clock to stop, while another official at the sideline ran in and then signaled touchdown.

The NFL said in a statement Tuesday that the touchdown pass should not have been overturned - but acknowledged Tate should have been called for offensive pass interference before the catch. The league also said there was no indisputable evidence to reverse the call made on the field.

That drew even louder howls of disbelief. Some coaches, including Miami's Joe Philbin and Cincinnati's Marvin Lewis, tried to restore some calm by instructing players not to speak publicly on the issue.

Fines against two coaches for incidents involving the replacements were handed out Wednesday.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was docked $50,000 for trying to grab an official's arm Sunday to ask for an explanation of a call after his team lost at Baltimore. And Washington offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was tagged for $25,000 for what the league called "abuse of officials" in the Redskins' loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. Two other coaches, Denver's John Fox and assistant Jack Del Rio, were fined Monday for incidents involving the replacements the previous week.

"I accept the discipline and I apologize for the incident," Belichick said.

Players were in no mood for apologies from anyone.

"I'll probably get in trouble for this, but you have to have competent people," Carolina receiver Steve Smith said. "And if you're incompetent, get them out of there."

Added Rams quarterback Sam Bradford: "I just don't think it's fair to the fans, I don't think it's fair to us as players to go out there and have to deal with that week in and week out. I really hope that they're as close as they say they are."

They were.

New York City Schools See Success In New Century High Schools

Missing iPad tracked to TSA agent's home

In the latest apparent case of what have been hundreds of thefts by TSA officers of passenger belongings, an iPad left behind at a security checkpoint in the Orlando airport was tracked as it moved 30 miles to the home of the TSA officer last seen handling it.

Confronted two weeks later by ABC News, the TSA officer, Andy Ramirez, at first denied having the missing iPad, but ultimately turned it over after blaming his wife for taking it from the airport.

The iPad was one of ten purposely left behind at TSA checkpoints at major airports with a history of theft by government screeners, as part of an ABC News investigation into the TSA's ongoing problem with theft from passengers.

The full video report will be seen today on "Good Morning America," "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" and "Nightline."

We want to hear from you. Tell us about your experience with the TSA by joining the conversation on Facebook.

"This is the tip of the iceberg," said Rep. John Mica, R.-Florida, chair of the House Transportation Committee and a frequent critic of TSA senior management. "It is an outrage to the public, and actually to our aviation system."

The TSA said Ramirez was no longer with the agency as of Wednesday afternoon. In a statement to ABC News, the agency said it has "a zero-tolerance policy for theft and terminates any employee who is determined to have stolen from a passenger."

According to the TSA, 381 TSA officers have been fired for theft between 2003 and 2012.

The agency disputes that theft is a widespread problem, however, saying the number of officers fired "represents less than one-half of one percent of officers that have been employed" by TSA.

PHOTOS of TSA officers charged in connection with theft from passengers.

In the ABC News investigation, TSA officers at nine of the ten airport checkpoints followed agency guidelines and immediately contacted the owner, whose name and phone number were displayed prominently on the iPad case.

Luggage checked at the same airports with iPads and cash went through security undisturbed.

But in Orlando, the iPad was not immediately returned and two hours later its tracking application showed the device as it moved away from the airport to the home of the TSA officer.

After waiting 15 days, ABC News went to the home and asked Ramirez to return the iPad.

He denied knowing anything about the missing iPad and said any items left behind at security checkpoints are taken to lost and found.

The Orlando airport lost and found said there was no record of an iPad being turned in on the day in question.

Ramirez produced the iPad only after ABC News activated an audio alarm feature, and turned it over after taking off his TSA uniform shirt.

His explanation for the missing iPad in his home was that his wife had taken it from the airport.

"I'm so embarrassed," he told ABC News. "My wife says she got the iPad and brought it home," he said.

Moments later, his wife appeared at the door to say she had found it and "no told my husband."

Asked how that was possible given that ABC News tape showed him handling the iPad at the security checkpoint, Ramirez shut the door and has not responded to questions since.

Police shoot knife-wielding man in Harlem

Web produced by Bill King, Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting in Harlem that left an emotionally-disturbed man dead.

Officers reportedly shot the knife-wielding 28-year-old after several attempts to subdue him failed and he apparently slashed them with the weapon.

The incident began when the man's mother called 911 because he had grabbed the knife and locked himself in the apartment. She had been visiting him from Guinea to celebrate his birthday, which was just days away.

When police arrived at the apartment on Morningside Avenue near West 124th Street around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, they say Mohamed Bahh was still locked inside. They put a camera underneath the door to get a view of the inside of the apartment, but they say Bahh grabbed the camera, then came out waving the 12-inch kitchen knife.

When he would not drop the weapon, authorities say officers used a taser on him. When that had no effect, they reportedly shot him with a rubber bullet and tased him again. Still, they say he was able to charge at officers and slash two of them in their bullet-resistant vests.

The officers were unhurt, but fearing that Bahh may strike again, they shot him. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police remain at the scene investigating the incident.

Woman arrested for spray-painting 'Jihad' subway ad

AP  Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK -- An Egyptian-born U.S. columnist was arrested Tuesday for spray-painting an advertisement equating Muslim radicals with savages at a New York City subway station.

Mona Eltahawy, 45, of New York, was arrested on charges including criminal mischief and making graffiti, police said. Her arrest was captured on video by a New York Post camera crew and posted online.

Eltahawy is a women's rights defender and lecturer on the role of social media in the Arab world. She calls herself a liberal Muslim who's spoken publicly against violent Islamic groups. She's seen in the video spraying pink paint on the ad while another woman tries to block her.

"This is non-violent protest, see this America" Eltahawy said in the video as police officers were arresting her. "I'm an Egyptian-American and I refuse hate."

Eltahawy hasn't returned a phone message seeking comment on her arrest.

The ads - reading, "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad." - went up in 10 stations across Manhattan after a court victory by a conservative commentator who once headed a campaign against an Islamic center near the World Trade Center site.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York initially refused to run blogger Pamela Geller's ad, saying it was "demeaning." But a federal judge ruled in July that it is protected speech under the First Amendment.

Geller, executive director of the American Freedom Defense Initiative and publisher of a blog called Atlas Shrugs, has said she's not concerned that her ad could spark protests like the ones against the depiction of Muslims in the video "Innocence of Muslims." Violence linked to the movie has left dozens in seven countries dead, including the American ambassador to Libya.

The ad was plastered on San Francisco city buses in recent weeks, prompting some people to deface the ads and remove some of the words, including "Jihad," or holy war.

Geller said the subway ads cost about $6,000. The MTA said they will be up for a month.

Caught on tape: Alleged police brutality in Washington

Eyewitness NewsWASHINGTON (WABC) -- A Washington state police department is investigating a report of police abuse after the beating of two brothers was caught on camera.

The DashCam recorded police beating and arresting the men in Tukwila, Washington.

Officers claim the men resisted arrest, but the video seems to show them raising their hands before officers approached.

The two brothers, Charles Chappelle and Jahmez Amili, say it all happened so fast.

"I was thrown to the ground," Amili said. "I didn't have no idea what was going on. I was like, I can't believe he just started punching me."

The incident happened at 2:43 a.m. on Saturday, May 12.

"Once I was on the ground, I was pinned to the ground by several people," Chapelle said. "People's hands and knees were on my hands and back, and I was getting hit continually in the face."

The officers reportedly pepper-sprayed them, too.

According to the police report, officers were responding to a fight near the Southcenter Mall when they spotted the two brothers walking near the edge of the road.

"The pair was intoxicated, showing erratic behavior and were refusing orders," the report read.

The brothers admit they'd been drinking, but they say they were not arguing with the officers.

"I had my hands raised in the air," Amili said. "I was complying with the officer's demands."

The video shows Chappelle holding his hands up. And with the video slowed down, you can even see him start to go to the ground before the officer gets to him.

Once handcuffed, the two were walked to the patrol cars, where you can clearly see Amili's bloodied face.

"I was just trying to make sure I stay alive, because I was really like feeling like I was about to die," Chapelle said. "I couldn't breathe at all."

The two brothers were arrested for investigation of obstruction of justice and resisting arrest. Police say they also assaulted the officers during the struggle.

But when the two men were taken to jail, the guards turned them away and told police they needed to be taken to the hospital instead. That was at 3:47 a.m.

According to Chappelle and Amili, they never got treatment at Highline Hospital, like it said in the police report.

They say the officers washed off their faces in a garage at the Tukwila Police Department, then drove them around with the windows down.

Finally, at 5:47 a.m., three hours after they were first approached by police, Chappelle and Amili were taken to the jail and booked.

Both of the men have previous criminal convictions for drugs and assault.

The charges against Amili in this case were recently dismissed by a judge, but they are still pending against Chappelle.

Welcome to the WABC's "Coming Up Roses: The Bachelorette" blog. This blog is written by WABC employee Jennifer Matarese, a loyal viewer of "The Bachelor," "The Bachelorette," and "Bachelor Pad," who has been a fan since season 1. We'll watch your favorite "Bachelor" stars battle it out for $250,000! 09/25/2012 Sean Lowe is the New 'Bachelor'!!!

Wow!  Bombshell announcement!  Although it has been widely speculated, it is now official.  Sean Lowe is next season's "The Bachelor"!

Sean

Let's hope this hunky blond can find love.  Personally, I'm relieved it's not Ryan Lochte.  He's too much of a player.  Sean seems genuinely interested in finding Mrs. Right.  In case you don't know, Sean is 28 and is a businessman and entrepreneur from Dallas.

Here's the pool of the 25 women that Sean will get to meet and hopefully find his wife: from http://abc.go.com/shows/the-bachelor/photo-details/the-bachelorettes/1019280  There isn't a whole lot of information on them yet, but more is expected to follow.  At least we can get a good look at their faces.

So what do you think of Sean as the new "Bachelor"? Click comments below to share your thoughts! Season 17 of "The Bachelor" begins this coming January.

Hugs, Kisses & Roses,

Jennifer Matarese

Here is the full transcript of the interview with Nick Peterson, the big winner of "Bachelor Pad" 3!

Nick

Question:         So,Nick, what's the status of your relationship with Rachel now?  Did you guys end up talking things out andbecoming friends again or do you kind of have no intention to fix things?

Nick Peterson: No.  I – we haven't talked at all.  And would I like to?  Yes, absolutely.  But I figured I'd let it settle down a littlebit for a while because I know especially, you know, with the finale airinglast night that she's going to be bombarded with a lot of questions.

She's goingto stand up for herself, I'm sure, you know, and I would assume she's, youknow, not going to say some nice things about me.

So I'mgoing to let it settle down for a little while and then – and then hopefullymaybe we can patch things up.

09/10/2012 Deceit Wins Over Loyalty on 'Bachelor Pad' Finale

This shocking, most disturbing “Bachelor Pad” finale ever, was that andeven more.  Let’s recap on how Rachelreally got the short end of the stick this season in basically every way.

It came down to Nick and Rachel and then Chris and Sarah in the finals.  They brought back all of the contestants torehash everything that happened on the show this season in a “tell all” kind offormat.

Michaelhotseat
Michael wasin the hot seat first and he said that what Erica said when he was eliminatedby her was uncalled for.  Erica says thatshe stands behind what she said.  Headded that he and Rachel had a great time but it just didn’t “you know”.  He said he thought things were amicable, andJaclyn said that she is still very hurt. He didn’t think there was enough there for a long termrelationship.  Michael said that Rachelwas falling in love with him and he just wasn’t with her.  The consensus among the other women in thehouse is that he pretty much led Rachel on. We’ll hear from Rachel on this topic later.

09/07/2012 Full Transcript of Interview with Chris Harrison

Here is the full transcript of the interview with Chris Harrison about "Bachelor Pad", the upcoming season of "The Bachelor", and even some details on how Emily and Jef from "The Bachelorette" are doing.

Chris harrison

Jennifer Matarese:       Soat the end of Monday's episode, you said that something in the finale was disturbing, and I was wondering if you could elaborate at all on that.

Chris Harrison:            Nottoo much without the kind of giving away what's the serving.  But yes, it's a little different.  And it's funny that I've heard several timesthat that is the worst.  It kind ofresonated with fans.  And the people onTwitter and everything, they're like, “Oh my gosh, he said dramatic before, buthe'd never said the word disturbing.”  Soit's funny how kind of something has caught everyone's attention.

But it is a– it's very different.  And we're tryingto think like, “OK, how do we say this is very different than just the gardenvariety drama that we bring, you know, every season and every week, year in andyear out?”  And it's a very differentevent that happens in particular that we've never seen before, so that was the– we had to bring something new to the game.

09/06/2012 Chris Harrison Dishes on the 'Bachelor Pad' Finale and the Upcoming 'Bachelor'

Chris Harrison, the Rosemaster himself, acknowledged that in the promo for this coming week’s “Bachelor Pad” finale, calling it “disturbing” really resonated with the fans.  He said that he couldn’t really elaboratemuch more on what he meant when he said that because it would give it away, butthat “it’s different than the garden variety drama” that the show is known foreach week and each year and it’s something we’ve never seen before.  Sounds juicy!

Chris harrison

Also, I know there has been A LOT ofspeculation as to who the next “Bachelor” is going to be and he said that thedecision has still not been made although the field has been narrowed downconsiderably.  Whenever he mentioned Roberto,he would always say “was” being considered and I asked him about that but heseemed to mean that he was being considered and not that it was pasttense.  I don’t know if I totally buythat.  I think we are looking at SeanLowe, Ryan Lochte (I hope not!) and possibly someone new!  Harrison said that they are always goingthrough the applications of guys wanting to be the next “Bachelor” and the possibilitythat it is someone we haven’t seen before does remain!  That would be exciting.

09/03/2012 The Final Four Couples Turn into the Final Four Contestants on 'Bachelor Pad'

We’re down to the final four and things are going to get wild andintense.  The housemates can nowpractically feel their wallets getting fatter with the $250k.  Nick and Rachel feel like they could be nexton the chopping block because they are not “romantic” partners and everyoneelse is.

Chris Harrison announces that the winner of the competition will have alot of power in their hands, but he doesn’t completely explain what thatmeans.  He does say that they all need topack and that one couple will be leaving once the competition is over.  The very astute Chris says that he thinks itmeans the winner will get to choose who goes home.  I’m guessing he’s right.

Bachelorpad2
The competition is called “Hanging by a Thread”.  One person has to sit up on a platform andhang on to a bar while the other team member answers “Bachelor” trivia.  Wrong answers means that the ropes holdingthe platform up start to disappear.  Thecouple who wins does select who will have to leave.

08/31/2012 Full Transcript of Interview with Kalon McMahon from 'Bachelor Pad'

Here is the full transcript of the interview with Kalon McMahon from "Bachelor Pad"!  If you didn't like him on "The Bachelorette" I think your opinion of him may change after the combination of watching "Bachelor Pad" and this interview!  He was very candid, open and honest.

Kalon

Question:            OK,so during your season of “The Bachlorette”, obviously a lot of people had astrong reaction to you and did like you very much, but you were extremelylikable on Bachelor Pad.  So I'mwondering if you wanted to change your strategy coming in or do you think Lindzibrought out the best in you?

Kalon McMahon:              Well,to be completely honest I don't know if it was necessarily either.  I can't say that I had a specific strategygoing to either show.  We filmed themvery, very close so I was still the same person.  It was just a very differentenvironment.  I was much morecomfortable, much happier, much more outgoing on The Bachelor Pad just becausesimply of the dynamics.

Kalon

Kalonsaid that he didn’t have a specific strategy for “Bachelor Pad” or for “TheBachelorette” but that the reason he seemed different is because he was in adifferent environment each time.  He saidthat he just naturally had a better connection with Lindzi than he did withEmily.

08/27/2012 Spelling Out Your Feelings on 'Bachelor Pad'

10 people now remain inside the “Bachelor Pad”.  Chris Harrison said that now people wouldhave to compete as couples and vote together as couples and get voted out ascouples.  That’s crazy!  I love how the game keeps changing.  Nick and Rachel now have to team up as acouple because Michael was eliminated last week.

Sarah and Chris decided to go and gloat about how they arestill in the house.  Ed, Blakeley andJaclyn all want Chris out of the house. He’s going to have to win this week’s challenge to stay in the game Ithink.

Bach1
The next day, the competitors all get on a yellow school busand drive to a performing arts center. Inside, they learn that they will be competing in a spelling bee!  This is going to be hilarious!  They have to spell the words by alternatingletters with their partners.  That’scrazy hard!  The top kid spellers inCalifornia were there to judge and the bell ringer kid was disgusted with howbad they all were, it was so funny! Believe it or not it was down to Chris and Sarah and Ed and  Jaclyn. The winners were Chris and Sarah! I have to admit, I’m really glad they won…I love to hate Chris!
