Small fire at World Trade Center
Eyewitness NewsLOWER MANHATTAN -- Firefighters responded to the 89th floor of One World Trade Center to help construction workers put out a small fire in some wooden decking. The Fire Department says it got the call for help at 7:15 a.m. Saturday. Workers at the unfinished tower extinguished most of the burning wood themselves, but firefighters were still on the scene wetting down the area an hour later.
The skyscraper is already over 1,200 feet high, with a few hundred feet more to go until it reaches its full height.

Model injured by small plane propeller
She loved fashion, she wrote it, talked about it, and even started a magazine about it called "Lolo".
Monday night, 23-year-old Lauren Scruggs is in a Texas hospital fighting for her future after a freak plane accident.
The young fashionista from Plano, Texas was flying around in a small propeller plane Saturday night to look at Christmas lights.What began as a holiday treat, ended up costing the young model and fashion editor her hand.
Officials believe when the plane landed at a small private airport in McKinney, Scruggs got off and in a bizarre accident walked right into the propeller, which sliced at her like a giant blender.
She was rushed to the hospital where doctors removed what remained of her left hand.
It is reported she has also suffered brain, face and shoulder injuries.
Her family, devout Christians, say she was not drinking at the time.
"We have a strong faith in Jesus Christ as does our daughter; she's going to be on a tough road. It's going to be a long way back," said Jeff Scruggs, Lauren's father.

4 dead in small plane crash
Eyewitness NewsWESTCHESTER (WABC) -- Investigators are working to determine the cause of a deadly crash in Westchester County.
Federal officials say the Cessna 210 burst into flames near an office building in the suburb of Armonk on Saturday killing all four people on board.
The small plane had departed from Westchester County Airport and was heading to Montauk at the time of the crash.
The victims are identified as Keith Weiner, 63, his wife Lisa Weiner, 51, and daughter Isabel Weiner, 14, of Manhattan and 14-year-old Lucy Walsh also of Manhattan.According to reports, the plane was in pieces and on fire when crews from local fire departments arrived.
The FAA said that the National Transportation Safety Board was sending investigators to look into the crash.

Study: NYC groceries cheaper than small cities
By Bill King, Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- This may be tough to swallow, but a study by economists at Columbia University shows that groceries in New York City are actually cheaper than in other parts of the country. The two economists compared identical products sold in cities big and small, both at high-end grocery stores and discount retailers.
In nearly every case, New York products were cheaper than in places such as Memphis, Indianapolis and Milwaukee.
But do New Yorkers agree?"Hell no," 47-year-old mother of two Tina Smith told the Wall Street Journal. "There's inflation in New York."
One reason for the discrepancies, according to study authors Prof. David E. Weinstein and doctoral student Jessie Handbury, is that New York City offers a vast variety of choices, which they say throws off the average prices.
You can get bread in any grocery store, Weinstein told the newspaper, but "if you go into Fairway in New York, you can buy a Balthazar baguette" - and pay for it too.
Since cities like the Big Apple sell more varieties of products, the average price of those products appears higher. But using barcode data to compare the same products in smaller cities, the authors found metropolitan areas had cheaper prices. They say expensive foods in New York's high-end stores cost less than the same products in smaller cities, presumably because they are harder to find in those areas. Likewise, inexpensive foods at New York's low-end stores also cost less than their small-city equivalents.
