Arrest made in MTA bus driver syringe stabbing

  NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police have made an arrest in the stabbing of an MTA bus driver with a syringe.

The driver was attacked in September while on his route along Prospect Park. Eyewitnesses say the attacker pricked the driver with a syringe for no apparent reason, and then fled.

The suspect, 53-year-old Shelwyn Patt was arrested after another bus driver recognized him from a police sktch.

Patt is charged with felony assault.

Driver killed during scuffle with cop in Newburgh

  Eyewitnesss NewsNEWBURGH (WABC) -- Authorities are investigating a deadly police-involved shooting in Orange County.

The incident happened on Route 32 in Newburgh around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police say a state trooper had pulled over a Lexus when some sort of scuffle broke out between the driver and the officer.

That's when the trooper opened fire, killing the 52-year-old man.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating why the car was stopped and what started the fight.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Hit and run driver kills elderly pedestrian in Harlem

  Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- Police are looking for the driver who hit and killed an elderly man in Harlem.

It happened late Friday night at the intersection of Broadway and 114th Street.

Police say the 75-year old pedestrian was crossing 114th Street when he was struck by a black Honda Civic traveling north on Broadway.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

The victim was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Driver arrested after allegedly dragging officer

  Eyewitness NewsISLAND PARK (WABC) -- Police in Nassau County have arrested an Island Park man after he allegedly dragged a police officer with his car.

The incident happened around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

According to investigators, William Quinn, 60, was stopped by a Fourth Precinct police officer at Island Parkway and Southard Drive for operating a 2005 Toyota with excessively tinted windows.

After being handed the traffic summons, police say Quinn became agitated and accelerated the vehicle, dragging the officer approximately 20 feet eventually knocking him to the ground.

The officer was able to enter his police vehicle and follow Quinn, stopping him at Island Parkway and Suffolk Road.

Quinn then placed his vehicle into reverse and fled westbound on Island Parkway.

The officer called for help and other officers then stopped Quinn at Long Beach Road and Island Parkway.

Police say he refused to be handcuffed, flailing his arms and attempted to pull away from officers. He was eventually placed into custody.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released for abrasions and contusions to his arms, shoulders and legs.

Quinn is facing charges of assault, resisting arrest and numerous traffic violations.

Brooklyn woman killed by hit-and-run driver

See it on TV? Check here.   Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- Police say a Brooklyn woman was killed on Christmas morning in a hit-and-run accident.

Donna Fountain, 38, was crossing Eastern Parkway at Troy Avenue in Crown Heights at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday when she was struck by a silver-colored Audi.

It happened around the corner from her apartment.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The car kept going and police are still searching for the driver.

Police are withholding the victim's name until they can notify her family.

NJ boy dead; police search for hit-and-run driver

  Eyewitness NewsLAKEWOOD, N.J. (WABC) -- Police in New Jersey are searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed a 12-year-old boy.

It happened on South Clover Street in Lakewood at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say the vehicle ran the boy over, then fled the scene.

The boy died a short time later.

The vehicle is described as large and dark, possibly a mini-van, and police say it likely has damage to its front end and a broken windshield.

Unlicensed livery cab driver murdered in Brooklyn

  Eyewitness NewsWINGATE (WABC) -- An unlicensed livery driver was fatally shot in Brooklyn Tuesday nigh as he drove his so-called "Dollar Van" through the Wingate section.

Police say the 42-year-old man victim driving on Utica Avenue in the B46 bus lane when he was shot once in the head at around 8:30 p.m.

The gunman walked up to the van, fired one shot and walked away.

After the victim was shot, his van coasted about three blocks on Utica Avenue, coming to a stop only when it crashed into another vehicle.

He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The gunman fled in another vehicle. No arrests were immediately made.

Cab driver wanted in rape of passenger in Brooklyn

See it on TV? Check here. Web produced by Bill King, Eyewitness NewsWILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Police in Brooklyn are searching for a taxi driver who is accused of raping a female passenger at knifepoint.

The cabbie also stole the victim's cell phone and cash, according to authorities.

The incident happened near Rodney Street and South 1st Street in Williamsburg, which is a very isolated area right next to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, near the entrance to the Willamsburg Bridge.

Authorities say the cab driver pulled a knife and raped his victim in the backseat of the taxi. He also tied her up, police said.

The suspect is in his 40s and is approximately 5-foot-8 and has a full beard. He was last seen wearing a red and orange turban.

The victim is a 26-year-old woman who was trying to get to Manhattan. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Friday, May 6.

The cabbie allegedly stole the woman's cell phone and $20. She was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries to her face and hands, apparently the result of a struggle.

Driver killed in grisly wrong-way crash on NJ highway

  Eyewitness NewsSPRINGFIELD (WABC) -- A driver was killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 78 in New Jersey Tuesday morning.

The victim was driving east in the westbound express lanes and collided head on with a tractor trailer just before 3 a.m. in Springfield.

The driver was crushed in the vehicle, a Volkswagen Gulf, and pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the tractor trailer was treated for minor injuries.

It was not clear why the victim was driving in the wrong direction.

The westbound express lanes were closed for more than four hours for the investigation.
