Ryan Reynolds weds Blake Lively, 'Green Lantern' co-star - report

Have Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, who starred together in the 2011 superhero movie "Green Lantern," tied the knot?

People magazine reported on Sunday that the pair, who have been linked romantically for almost a year, wed that night at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, near Charleston, and that the actress' friend, Florence Welch of the band Florence + The Machine, performed at the ceremony. Reps for the two actors had no immediate comment.

The news was reported earlier by Charleston radio station 95.1 FM.

Reynolds, 35, played the superhero and alter ego Hal Jordan in "Green Lantern," while Lively, 25, portrayed his love interest, Carol Ferris. She is also known for her role as Serena on the CW drama series "Gossip Girl."

Employees at the venue where the wedding reportedly took place are keeping mum about the matter.

"We are receiving a number of inquiries this morning. From time to time Boone Hall Plantation hosts celebrity events. We respect the privacy of the individuals involved at these events. We thank you for your inquiries," read a message posted on the Facebook page of Boone Hall Plantation on Monday morning.

The two were first linked romantically around the fall of 2011, several months after "Green Lantern" was released. They have kept mum when asked about their reported relationship. People magazine reported that the two had earlier this year bought a home together in Bedford, New York.

Reynolds, a former Canadian child star who famously played the title role in the comedy "Van Wilder" and was named the "Sexiest Man Alive in 2010" by People, was previously married for two years to actress Scarlett Johansson. Their finalized their divorce in July 2011. Lively, who once dated her "Gossip Girl" co-star Penn Badgely and has in the past also been linked romantically to Leonardo DiCaprio, has never been married before.

Dharun Ravi to report to jail in Rutgers webcam case

  GEOFF MULVIHILLNEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- A former Rutgers University student convicted of using a webcam to spy on his gay roommate is poised to start serving his 30-day jail sentence.

Dharun Ravi, 20, is scheduled to turn himself in Thursday at the Middlesex County Jail.

In March, a jury found Ravi guilty of 15 criminal charges, including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation. He used his webcam in September 2010 to stream - and view - seconds of live video of roommate Tyler Clementi and another man kissing, and told others they could watch another encounter two days later. Clementi jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge just days after the ordeal began.

Ravi could have remained free while prosecutors appeal his sentence. But during a hearing Wednesday, he agreed to waive his protection from double jeopardy. He is now not allowed to argue that he's already served his time if prosecutors prevail on their appeal and he receives a longer sentence.

Ravi requested permission Tuesday to start serving his sentence as he apologized for the first time for his actions, which he described in a statement as "thoughtless, insensitive, immature, stupid and childish." In court Wednesday, Ravi answered questions from his lawyer and Berman but did not say any more about his apology.

Ravi's lawyer Joseph Benedict said he's still appealing the conviction altogether.

It's not clear whether Ravi will serve the full 30 days. In most cases, New Jersey county jail inmates with 30-day sentences automatically have them reduced by 10 days for good behavior. A warden at Middlesex County Jail was not immediately available Wednesday to say whether that would apply to Ravi.

His lawyer said Ravi would also begin working on his 300 hours of community service and start paying the more than $11,000 in fines and assessments that are part of his punishment.

Some gay rights activists have portrayed Clementi's story as a prime example of the consequences of bullying young gays. Ravi's defenders see him as a scapegoat for a death that they don't believe he was responsible for - and was not charged with.

Suffolk County to release shocking drug report

  Eyewitness NewsSUFFOLK COUNTY (WABC) -- Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota will unveil a 98-page Grand Jury report Thursday detailing astonishing statistics of an epic drug crisis on Long Island.

Eyewitness News has exclusively obtained a copy of the report.

Months ago, in response to the Father's Day 2011 massacre at Medford's Haven Drugs, Spota empanelled a special grand jury to look into the problems of opiate abuse and doctor shopping. The investigation has yielded indictments against 26 people, for the following:

Sale and possession of controlled substances Vehicular assault Vehicular manslaughter Driving while ability impaired Criminal possession of forged instrument

Perhaps more important than the indictments are the startling numbers detailed in the report, including the following:

Between 2006 and 2010, Suffolk heroin arrests rose 170 percent, from 486 to 1,315. Suffolk County has seen 70 percent more prescriptions for oxycodone than the average for any other state. Between 2004 and 2011, the number of overdose victims with oxycodone in their blood jumped 266 percent. In the same time period, the number of overdose deaths attributed to opioids increased 69 percent. Between 1996 and 2011, the Suffolk County Drug Court treatment program saw a 425 percent increase in heroin abuse, and a 1,136 percent increase in opioid pill abuse.

The report goes on to make a series of recommendations for how to reverse the trend, including statutory and regulatory changes at the federal, state and local levels; modifying the FDA process of authorizing prescription opioids for manufacturing, marketing, and labeling; and at the state level enacting E-Prescribing rather than written prescriptions.

Report: New York City 911 system beset by errors

  SAMANTHA GROSSNEW YORK -- A consultant's report has found that New York City's 911 system is beset by delays and errors that endanger callers in an emergency.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg released an edited version of the report Friday.

The administration is fighting legal efforts to force it to release earlier versions of the report. It's not clear how the 133-page document has been altered from its draft form.

The city has appealed a judge's ruling that it must release the drafts of the document. The case is pending in court.

The final version of the report says call operators waste time repeating questions and use inconsistent questioning procedures. It says the recently overhauled system sends some responders to the wrong address and slows fire and medical dispatchers' efforts to give instructions to callers.

Report: 3 NJ state police commanders reassigned

  Eyewitness NewsTRENTON, N.J. (WABC) -- Three state police commanders have been reassigned as officials continue to probe allegations that a caravan of luxury sports cars received an unauthorized, high-speed police escort down the Garden State Parkway, according to a published report.

Maj. Robert Catullo, the commander of the troop overseeing northern New Jersey, was among those reassigned late Friday, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported Sunday (http://bit.ly/IkIyAC), citing three unidentified people with knowledge of the moves. Also moved were Catullo's deputy commander, Capt. Michael Cerisano, and a region commander, Capt. Warren Moore.

It wasn't clear what role, if any, the transferred troopers might have played in the escorts or where they will now be stationed.

State Police Lt. Stephen Jones said 10 commanders were transferred overall Friday in "a re-alignment aimed at the Operations Branch." Jones said the transfers came in light of recent ongoing internal investigations, but did not say how many of the transfers related to the high-speed escorts. He also declined to identify the troopers involved.

Two troopers were suspended without pay last Monday after news reports recounted witnesses who said they saw the caravan of a few dozen high-performance luxury cars speeding down the Garden State Parkway at 100 mph on March 30, escorted by two state police cars. A station commander also was reportedly reassigned Monday.

The 54-year-old Catullo, a 30-year veteran of the force, must retire by year's end because he will reach the state police's mandatory retirement age. The 53-year-old Cerisano has been a trooper for about 27 years while Moore, 51, has been a trooper for about 24 years.

Catullo is one of 16 majors in Fuentes' command staff, according to the state police website. The majors are overseen by four lieutenant colonels who report directly to Fuentes.

Catullo led Totowa-based Troop B, which covers 2,807 square miles and about 5 million people in northern Jersey. The job of commander there is one of the most powerful and coveted jobs within the state police and includes overseeing the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

The troop is also responsible for working closely with the U.S. Secret Service to escort and protect dignitaries, including presidents, cabinet members and military generals, according to the agency's website. _

Heavy D died of natural causes, according to coroner's report

Heavy D, a rapper who rose to fame in the 1990s with hits such as "Now That We Found Love," died of natural causes at age 44 on November 8, the Los Angeles coroner's office announced on December 27.

The rapper, whose real name was Dwight Errington, collapsed outside his Beverly Hills home and later died at a hospital.

Coroner's office spokesman Craig Harvey told the Associated Press on Tuesday, that the cause of death was a pulmonary embolism - a blockage of the main artery of the lung - and deep leg vein thrombosis, which causes the formation of blood clots in the leg. The rapper had lost a significant amount of weight over the years and suffered from arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The coroner's office also said that a transcontinental jet flight was also a contributing factor to his death.

John Legend and his fiancee, model Chrissy Teigen, were among several celebrities at the rapper's funeral on November 18.

Heavy D was born as Dwight Arrington Myers in Jamaica and was raised in New York. He began his music career as a young adult and formed a hip hop group called "Heavy D & the Boyz."

The act's debut album, "Livin' Large," was released in 1987. A year later, sophomore record "Big Tyme" hit stores and went platinum. The group's breakout hit, "Now That We Found Love," was released in 1991 and is featured on the group's third album, "Peaceful Journey." Heavy D & the Boyz also achieved mainstream success with the 1994 song "Nuttin' But Love."

Heavy D released his first solo album, "Waterbed Hev," in 1997. His fourth, "Love Opus," hit stores in September. A month later, Heavy D performed at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards in October 2011, marking his final major televised performance and his first live one in some 15 years.

Heavy D & the Boyz is also known for singing the theme song for the television program "In Living Color." Heavy D also provided the rap vocals on Michael Jackson's 1991 song "Jam" and on the King of Pop's sister Janet's 1990 song "Alright."

Heavy D also worked as an actor. He starred on the television drama "Boston Public" between 2000 and 2003 and also appeared on "The Tracy Morgan Show." He played Sid Shapiro on the FOX series "Bones" and recently guest starred as a manager of an NBA player on the NBC show "Law & Order: Special Victim's Unit."

The rapper also appeared in the comedy film "Tower Heist," which starred Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller and was released last month. Heavy D played a courthouse guard.

Report: Rents spike across Manhattan

  Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- This might not come as a surprise, but living in Manhattan is getting more expensive.

The Wall Street Journal reports that rents have spiked across the city.

On average, Manhattan rents jumped 10 percent during the second quarter of the year.

Three-bedroom apartments saw the biggest increases, rising 11.3 percent to an average of $4,985 a month.

Analysts say the increase is due to fewer apartments being available and an increased demand.

Report: Found body is not missing IU student

  Eyewitness NewsINDIANAPOLIS (WABC) -- Police in Indianapolis say the badly decomposed body of a woman found in a local creek is NOT a 20-year-old Indiana University student who went missing in Bloomington more than a month ago.

WRTV is reporting the medical examiner says the body found on Monday is that of a black female, ruling out that it would be Lauren Spierer.

The body was spotted Sunday floating among debris in Fall Creek.

Authorities in Bloomington have been searching for Spierer, who was last seen June 3 near her Bloomington apartment after a night out drinking with her friends. Bloomington is about 50 miles south of Indianapolis.
