Ryan Reynolds weds Blake Lively, 'Green Lantern' co-star - report

Have Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, who starred together in the 2011 superhero movie "Green Lantern," tied the knot?

People magazine reported on Sunday that the pair, who have been linked romantically for almost a year, wed that night at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, near Charleston, and that the actress' friend, Florence Welch of the band Florence + The Machine, performed at the ceremony. Reps for the two actors had no immediate comment.

The news was reported earlier by Charleston radio station 95.1 FM.

Reynolds, 35, played the superhero and alter ego Hal Jordan in "Green Lantern," while Lively, 25, portrayed his love interest, Carol Ferris. She is also known for her role as Serena on the CW drama series "Gossip Girl."

Employees at the venue where the wedding reportedly took place are keeping mum about the matter.

"We are receiving a number of inquiries this morning. From time to time Boone Hall Plantation hosts celebrity events. We respect the privacy of the individuals involved at these events. We thank you for your inquiries," read a message posted on the Facebook page of Boone Hall Plantation on Monday morning.

The two were first linked romantically around the fall of 2011, several months after "Green Lantern" was released. They have kept mum when asked about their reported relationship. People magazine reported that the two had earlier this year bought a home together in Bedford, New York.

Reynolds, a former Canadian child star who famously played the title role in the comedy "Van Wilder" and was named the "Sexiest Man Alive in 2010" by People, was previously married for two years to actress Scarlett Johansson. Their finalized their divorce in July 2011. Lively, who once dated her "Gossip Girl" co-star Penn Badgely and has in the past also been linked romantically to Leonardo DiCaprio, has never been married before.

Green Lantern is gay, kisses man in DC Comics reboot (Photo)

The superhero Green Lantern has come out of the closet.

DC Comics has revealed that a rebooted version of the character, which is one of its most popular ones, is openly gay. This information is revealed in the upcoming issue of "Earth 2," which hits stores on Wednesday, June 6 and shows the green costumed galactic space cop's alter ego, Alan Scott, kissing a man (see pictured, above).

Scott was the first Green Lantern and made his debut in a 1940 comic book titled "All-American Comics" No. 16. Ryan Reynolds played a different Green Lantern alter ego - Hal Jordan - in a 2011 movie.

"A team leader with a Type-A personality and an appetite for justice, Alan also happens to be homosexual," according to a DC Comics blog post about the new, rebooted character. "And while his origins won't be shown in full detail until issue #3, we can tease that a traumatic event will serve as the catalyst for him assuming his superhero identity as The Green Lantern."

DC Comics has included other gay characters, such as Batwoman Kate Kane. while Marvel Entertainment has the superhero Northstar, who is engaged to his boyfriend. Green Lantern is now the highest-profile gay superhero.

His costume will also get a makeover, DC Comics' post said, adding that Scott's storyline was rebooted as part of the company's "New 52" initiative aimed at rejuvenating its characters. It said that "it is also important to note that while Alan is a gay man, his sexuality is merely only one part of his multi-layered character."

"Oh, and on Earth 2 there is only one Green Lantern, so Alan's title is The Green Lantern," series writer James Robinson said. "Alan's sexuality is just one facet of him, along with his innate goodness, valor, charisma and skill at leadership that makes him the perfect man to wield the power of the green light in the world of Earth 2."

The Trend: Donut Day, Green Lantern and an Inspiring Run

Good morning!

Happy Towel Day!  Yes, there is such a thing.  Carry a towel with you wherever you go and no one will think it odd.   And if anyone does think it odd, you can tell them it's a tribute to the novelist Douglas Adams, who wrote The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.  

There is even a website dedicated to the event.   You can even send us or Tweet us your towel photos if you wish.   The commemoration started two weeks after Adams died in 2001.   And if you want to know why, read chapter 3 of Hitchhikers, and you will find yourself asking, where's my towel?

Star Wars marks its 35th Anniversary today, so if you walk around in a Darth Vader costume today, it's okay too.

Grammy-winning folk musician Doc Watson is listed in critical condition after falling at his home, making him a top search on Google this morning.   The blind singer and guitarist known as a master of the flatpicking-style of guitar playing is being treated at a hospital in North Carolina.   The 89-year-old Watson has won several Grammys and received the National Medal of the Arts.

Chris Brown has rolled out a steamy trending video called Sweet Love.   The song is from his upcoming album Fortune, due out on July 3.

While Warren Buffett is all hot on buying up newspapers, one of the nation's oldest is cutting back.  The (New Orleans) Times Picayune is ending daily publication and plans to offer three printed issues a week starting in the fall.   New Orleans will become the largest metro area in the nation without a daily newspaper.  This is the digital age.

Memorial Day is also trending as we mark the unofficial start of the summer season with beaches and barbeques and fun times, but lest we forget that Memorial Day is about the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country.

Most Americans today have little direct connection to the military, and so perhaps the holiday should take on even greater meaning.  Less than 1 percent of our population serves in the U.S. military (just a couple of million) compared to the 16 million men and women who wore a uniform during World War II.  Pew Research Center found that only a third of Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 have an immediate family member who had served in the military. As Ben Patton writes in a blog post this morning, perhaps the best way to spend this Memorial Day is to try to spend a few minutes with a veteran. "Give him or her a chance to talk. And listen."

You may have seen the photo of President Obama bowing to a 5-year-old boy who is touching the president's hair to see if it feels like his.  The photo has gone viral after appearing in an article by the New York Times.

The boy, Jacob Philadelphia, is the son of a former Marine who was leaving the White House staff three years ago and asked for a family photograph with the President.  You can read the full story behind the photo on the Times website.

A viral video out of Mexico shows a reporter appear to be using someone to fake a wind storm by having them kick dirt in the air.   The translation, according to one commenter, the reporter is actually saying the person is kicking the dirt in the air to demonstrate how windy it is.  The video has nearly a million views since this writing.
