The test measures levels of troponin.
It's a protein released into the blood when the heart muscle is damaged, such as during a heart attack.
The higher the level, the more damage there is to the heart.By using the test, doctors could know within three hours whether a patient who's come to the hospital with chest pains has definitely had a heart attack.
