Daniel Craig stars in the Hollywood remake of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and says the film's editing and soundtrack are two key driving forces that help drive the plot.
"It's been edited brilliantly as far as I'm concerned. The pace of it -- it drives through, it slows down when it wants to or needs to," Craig said in an interview provided by the film's studio, Columbia Pictures. "Then you've got Trent Reznor and Atticus' [Ross] score which is just gut-wrenching I think at times."
"It really kind of pulls you through the movie," he added.
Daniel Craig plays Mikael Blomkvist, a disgraced journalist accused of libel who takes a leave of absence from Millennium magazine. He is called into action by Henirk Vanger to investigate the 1966 disappearance of his grandniece Harriet. Blomkvist's life eventually becomes tied to Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). The film hit theaters on December 20.
A Swedish film adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" was released in 2009 and starred Noomi Rapace as Salander.
Trent Reznor, the former Nine Inch Nails front man, composed the film's score with Atticus Ross. The two previously teamed up to work on the score for "The Social Network," which won them a Golden Globe and an Oscar.
Reznor and Ross were nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Score on December 15 for their work on "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo."
Craig added that the story "allows you to get to know these characters and be concerned about them so when everything goes wrong, you're kind of rooting for them."
The actor also said he believes American audiences can handle the more brutal aspects of the film, which includes rape scenes and torture. "I think American audiences can deal with this movie easily," Craig said.
