Homeless man in need of transplant gets a home

Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- A homeless man who needs a kidney transplant now has a home for the holidays and beyond.

Octavio Estevez and his family were presented the keys to their new apartment in Washington Heights on Saturday.

Estevez lost his job and home after he was diagnosed with kidney disease.

After hearing his story, city leaders worked to get him a housing authority apartment.

"We could save his life. I am optimistic that we could save his life," NYS Sen. Adriano Espaillat (D-Manhattan/Bronx) said. Workers are putting the finishing touches on the home so the family can move in as soon as possible.
