CT man arrested in Bronx makeshift pipe bomb sale

Eyewitness NewsBRONX (WABC) -- A man was arrested for allegedly selling makeshift pipe bombs from his car in a Bronx parking lot, and authorities searched his Bridgeport apartment overnight.

Police say the 37-year-old man was arrested after selling undercover officers eight crude pipe bombs from his white Subaru, parked at a Co-Op City shopping center Thursday afternoon.

The makeshift bombs were reportedly made of aluminum and apparently filled with potassium perchlorate, with fuses attached.

The man was taken into custody. Authorities believe he was acting on his own.

Investigators learned he had an apartment on Riverview Drive in Bridgeport.

During the ensuing search, a Connecticut State Trooper sustained a minor injury when one of his makeshift pipe bombs flashed over.

Riverview Drive was closed for one block as federal authorities searched the apartment.
