9/11 Anniversary: Schedule of Events

  Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- Here is the info for the ceremony to be held at ground zero on Tuesday, September 11.

The observance of the 11th Anniversary of September 11 will take place at the National September 11 Memorial plaza, located in the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan. Music will provide a backdrop throughout the program.

The commemoration is for family members of victims of the 2001 and 1993 attacks and they have been invited to participate in this year's reading of the names. The ceremony will pause at six moments - twice to mark the times that each plane hit the towers, twice to mark the time when each tower fell and to mark the moments of the attacks on the Pentagon and on Flight 93. The first moment of silence will be at 8:46 a.m., and houses of worship have been asked to toll their bells at that time. The ceremony will conclude at approximately 12:30 p.m. (this is subject to change).

The following program information is for immediate publication, broadcast and release:

Family members will begin reading the names in pairs

There will be 100 pairs (200 readers) who will continue until all names are read Music will provide a backdrop throughout the program 9:03 a.m. - Moment of silence (observance of time UA Flight 175 struck South Tower)
Reading of names continues/music resumes 9:37 a.m. - Moment of silence (observance of time AA Flight 77 struck the Pentagon)
Reading of names continues/music resumes 9:59 a.m. - Moment of silence (observance of time of fall of the South Tower)
Reading of names continues/music resumes 10:03 a.m. - Moment of silence (observance of time UA Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania)
Reading of names continues/music resumes 10:28 a.m. - Moment of silence (observance of time of fall of the North Tower)
Reading of names continues to conclusion/music resumes Young People's Chorus of New York City performs "Give Us Hope" Taps performed by three trumpeters (NYPD, FDNY, PAPD) 12:30 p.m. - Program concludes 8:00 p.m. - National September 11 Memorial Closes

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION

Bagpipe Processional: Nine pipers and drummers from NYPD, FDNY and PAPD.

Honor Guard: The stage honor guard participating this year's ceremony are made up of individuals representing the Fire Department (FDNY), Police Department (NYPD) and the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD). In addition, there will be an honor guard made up of individuals representing the Fire Department (FDNY), Police Department (NYPD) and the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) that will stand at the entrance of the Memorial Plaza. Members of this honor guard will stand for about 20 minutes and then rotate.

List of Names: A complete list of the names of the 2,983 victims of the 2001 attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93, along with the victims of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing will be posted on NYC.gov/mediaadviorsy prior to the start of the ceremony. Names will be read in alphabetical order as they are listed.

Readers List: A complete list of names of the readers will be posted on NYC.gov/mediaadviorsy prior to the start of the ceremony. Readers names will be posted in the order that they are scheduled to read but changes will occur during the course of the program.

TRIBUTE IN LIGHT

The "Tribute in Light," which is supported by the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, and is sponsored in part by The Municipal Art Society of New York and Citi, will shine to all those who were lost on September 11th. The lights are located at West and Morris streets in lower Manhattan. The lights will be on beginning at sunset on September 11, 2012 and fading away at dawn on September 12th. There will be no formal program. The lights are best seen when it is completely dark.

DRIVING RESTRICTIONS AND STREET CLOSURES

The following is a list of streets in the area that will be impacted by the events surrounding the ceremony and is for immediate release, publication and broadcast:

West Street will remain OPEN to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. However trucks will not be permitted northbound on West Street from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to Vesey Street. Trucks will be diverted from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to Trinity Place/Church Street to travel north. Church Streets/Trinity Place and Broadway will remain OPEN. The Liberty Street pedestrian bridge will be closed from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.

The following streets will be closed to traffic from 12:01 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (subject to change). Pedestrian access will be very limited:
