USDA ditches iconic food pyramid chart

WASHINGTON (WABC) -- It's the end of the line for an iconic government chart.

The USDA is ditching the food pyramid.

The Department of Agriculture is unveiling the new symbol for a healthy diet Thursday morning.

Instead of the pyramid of recommended food choices and portions, the new diagram will be a circle, representing a plate.

Officials say it will be easier for the public to understand.
