Police look for suspects in violet subway assault
Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- The search is on for as many as 12 teenage girls wanted in a brutal and violent attack that started on a subway train.
The teens, ranging in age from 15 to 18, assaulted two 16-year-old girls aboard a No. 4 train in the Bronx.
After stealing another girl's french fries, the teens allegedly pulled the victims off the train by their hair.
Police say the suspects also stole a cell phone.---

Spirit Airlines raising carry-on fee to $100

Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK -- Putting a bag in the overhead bin will soon cost some Spirit Airlines passengers $100, more than they paid for their tickets. The Miramar, Fla., airline currently charges $45 for a carry-on bag. As of Nov. 6, customers who pay the fee at the boarding gate will fork over $100. Any bag that needs to fit in the overhead bin is considered a carry-on. A bag that fits under the seat is free.
The fee stays at $45 if passengers pay at an airport counter or kiosk. Spirit is one of two airlines that charge for carry-ons.
Spirit will increase a handful of other fees between $2 and $10.In the first quarter, Spirit's average revenue from fees per passenger on a round-trip flight topped $100 for the first time.

Mom accused of allowing child to use tanning facility
Eyewitness NewsNUTLEY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A Nutley, New Jersey woman has been arrested and charged for allegedly bringing her young child to a tanning booth. The 5-year-old child suffered burns to her body.
Patricia Krentcil, 44, was arrested and charged with second-degree child endangerment.
New Jersey law states nobody under the age of 14 is allowed to use a tanning facility. Anyone under the age of 18 needs parental consent.Officials say the mother took the child into the tanning booth with her without salon's knowledge. Krentcil, who is very tan, says her daughter was in the room at the tanning salon, but not the booth.
No charges are being filed against the salon at this time.
Krentcil was released on bail.
The name of the salon was not released.

New Jersey police shoot suspect following chase
Eyewitness NewsBRICK TOWNSHIP (WABC) -- An investigation is under way in New Jersey after a state trooper shot a man early Wednesday morning in Ocean County. The shooting came after a long cross-state police chase that ended in Brick Township.
Investigators say the pursuit began when a trooper attempted to stop 30-year-old Michael Zaun for a motor vehicle violation in West Trenton around 12:30 a.m.
Zaun allegedly fled along Interstate 195 and the Garden State Parkway, eventually ending up on the front lawn of a home.That's where the trooper shot him as he tried to run to the front door of the home.
Zaun was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
No troopers were injured in the incident.
Troopers reported that Zaun fired a gun during the vehicle pursuit. Zaun's vehicle has not yet been searched. It was impounded and taken to Hamilton Station as evidence, pending an application for a search warrant.
Detectives learned that Zaun's vehicle was involved in a police pursuit in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, earlier in the evening, but the driver was not apprehended during that incident.
The Attorney General's Shooting Response Team is investigating the incident.
No charges have yet been filed.
The names of the troopers involved are not yet being released. Typically, troopers involved in shooting incidents are temporarily placed on administrative leave.

Mom in child tanning bed case talks to GMA
Although Patricia Krentcil doesn't deny that the child has been to the tanning salon with her, she says daughter Anna suffered from outdoor sunburn.
"The pediatrician said that she's got a little sunburn, but it was that only weekend we were out doing the gardening," Krentcil, 44, said.
It was Anna's school nurse who noticed she had a rash, and when the little girl told her it was from going tanning with her mother, the school notified child services. Krentcil said that while her daughter was in the room with her at the salon, she was never in the tanning booth.
"I never once in my life let me daughter, especially at that age, go into a tanning booth," Krentcil said.
She describes the girl's burns as not severe, and says she was told to put ointment on the rash, which she says is "just over-the-counter stuff."
Officials acknowledged the school's involvement and say they believe that Krentcil took the child into the tanning booth without the salon's knowledge.
"The little girl went to school and reported she had these burns and that caused the school to contact authorities," Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, said.
Carter declined to name the Nutley, N.J., tanning salon, citing the "ongoing investigation."
Ultraviolet lights in tanning beds are not only dangerous for children, but the UV light can damage DNA, causing mutations as well as formations of dangerous skin cancer cells.
"There's really no excuse to take a young child to a tanning salon," New York dermatologist Doris Day said. "We often consider going to a tanning salon the equivalent of smoking for the skin and the younger you start, those affects are cumulative."
Because of the negative effects, New Jersey law doesn't allow anyone younger than 14 is to use a tanning facility. Teens older than14 are allowed to go to salons but only with parental consent.
Krentcil is out on $25,000 bail, while her daughter in now in her father's custody.
Also ReadTyler Perry's studios in Atlanta damaged in 4-alarm fire
Part of Tyler Perry's studios in Atlanta suffered damage after a 4-alarm fire broke out at the complex on Tuesday night.
There were no reports of injuries and that cause of the blaze has not been revealed. Perry went to the facility to thank firefighters for their efforts.
"We are grateful that there were no injuries, and that 99 percent of the damage is limited to the backlot facade," his spokesperson said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com. "Mr. Perry wishes to express his heartfelt thanks to the Atlanta fire department for their professionalism in their quick response and limiting the damage. "
The complex has a 200,000-square-foot studio, five sound stages as well as a 400-seat theater.
Perry is known for his comedy series "Meet The Browns" and his "Madea" franchise, which features Perry in drag as the title character. The actor and director's other works include the TV series "House of Payne" and the films "For Colored Girls" and "Why Did I Get Married Too?"
