'Bachelorette's Emily Maynard, Jef Holm still engaged, talk cheating rumors

Emily Maynard and Jef Holm appeared on "Good Morning America" on September 7 to set the record straight about recent infidelity reports.

"It's crazy, it's just rumors," Holm said. "And it's just tabloid stuff written about us - and it's not true. Emily and I are so happy, and we are great - we're in love and we're happy."

Maynard, 26, appeared on the 15th season of "The Bachelor" in 2011 and was chosen by Brad Womack. The relationship quickly fizzled and Maynard was cast as the season 8 "Bachelorette." On the show, one contestant stole the event planner's heart - 27-year-old Holm - an entrepreneur from St. George, Utah who proposed to Maynard on the July 22 finale.

Shortly after their joyous announcement, rumors swirled that Maynard was having an affair. The young mother spoke out about the scandal on the ABC morning show, dismissing all of the claims.

"I was shocked, because I was thinking like, 'Why would anybody do that, why would somebody make that up?'" Maynard said. "But you know, it broke my heart for Jef more than anything - I can get through whatever anybody says about me, but the fact that it was family just broke my heart for him. But we are better than ever, it doesn't phase me one bit."

The rumors were reportedly started by Holm's own brother, who he confirmed gave a tip to an entertainment outlet. While the pair is disappointed in his actions, Holm explained that he still supports his brother and that they remain in contact.

"I don't know why he would do that, I don't know why," Holm explained. "Sometimes in our situation, I think, it brings out the worst in people. You know? I don't even know if he really knows why he did that. I love my family, I love my brother, and I support him and I know he supports us as a couple - it just makes people do crazy things sometimes, you know?"

"Me and my brother are speaking - we're good," he added.

Maynard and Holm, who appeared all smiles on the morning talk show, said that they are still engaged and that Holm has even moved to Maynard's hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.

"The first on my checklist was getting him to Charlotte, and now we can start the fun part and you know, plan our wedding," Maynard said. "I just want it to be like, super chill, good music and good food and lots of family - I just want him [Jef] there, it'd be great."

Maynard has previously been engaged twice - to Brad Womack on season 15 of "The Bachelor" and to NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick, who died in a 2004 plane crash, a week before she found out she was pregnant with their daughter Ricki, who is now 7 years old.

In the season finale, which aired on Sunday, July 22, Maynard chose between Holm and race car driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. Before the day of the proposal, Maynard told Luyendyk that she had more confidence in Holm.

On Wednesday, January 11, People and Us Weekly magazines quoted a spokesperson for the jewelry designer Gurhan as saying that Martinez gave Berry a diamond-and-emerald engagement ring. Their representatives had no immediate comment about the report.

Earlier this month, Berry was photographed wearing a a gold ring with what appeared to be an emerald stone. The picture was posted on the website of Marie Claire magazine.

Berry and Martinez, who turns 45 on Thursday, have been linked romantically for more than a year. The two were photographed kissing in September 2010. Since then, they have been spotted together in places such as Paris and the Spanish island of Majorca and were spotted at a Cirque du Soleil show and restaurant in Los Angeles earlier this week.

Survivor of deadly Conn. home invasion is engaged

petit FILE - In this Thursday Dec. 8, 2011 file photo, Dr. William Petit Jr., right, arrives at Superior Court in New Haven with friend Christine Paluf, left, on the fourth day of jury deliberations for the penalty phase of the trial of Joshua Komisarjevsky in New Haven, Conn. Petit, the sole survivor of the 2007 Cheshire, Conn., home invasion where his wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit and their daughters, Hayley and Michaela, were murdered, became engaged over the weekend to Paluf according to a family friend, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012. AP  Eyewitness NewsNEW HAVEN, Conn. -- A doctor whose wife and two daughters were killed in a violent home invasion has become engaged to a woman who volunteered at events organized by the foundation set up to honor their memories.

Dr. William Petit became engaged over the weekend to photographer Christine Paluf, but no wedding date was set, his friend and spokesman, Rick Healey, confirmed Wednesday.

The Hartford Courant first reported the engagement of the 55-year-old Petit to the 34-year-old Paluf, who Healey said volunteered at events of the Petit Family Foundation, which helps educate young people, improve the lives of those with chronic illnesses and protect those affected by violence.

During the 2007 invasion by two men at the Petit family home in Cheshire, a wealthy New Haven suburb, Petit was beaten with a baseball bat and tied up, but he escaped to a neighbor's home. His wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, was killed, and their daughters, 17-year-old Hayley and 11-year-old Michaela, were left to die in a fire.

The two men, Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes, are on death row for the killings. The men blamed each other for escalating the violence, but prosecutors said it took both of them to carry out the killings in a crime so gruesome that it evoked comparisons to Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood," about the brutal murders of a Kansas farmer and his family.

Hayes, convicted of raping and strangling Hawke-Petit and killing the girls, was sentenced to death last year. Komisarjevsky, convicted of the killings and of sexually assaulting the younger girl, was condemned to die last month but will be formally sentenced later this month.

Petit told a court during Hayes' sentencing he had seriously considered suicide many times after the deaths of his wife, whom he called his best friend, and their daughters. He fought back tears as he talked about his family.

"I miss my entire family, my home, everything we had together. They were three special people," he said. "I lost my entire family. I lost the records of our shared lives together due to the fire. Thus I lost my past and my future."

Petit said when Komisarjevsky was convicted that he has had the "occasional moments of peace" since the crime. But he said the trial evidence brought back all the horror.

"It's been very difficult," Petit said last October as his sister, father and other relatives stood by his side. "It's not clear to me that time heals all wounds, but you form some form of scars."

Hawke-Petit's mother, Marybelle Hawke, welcomed the news of Petit's engagement.

"We're really excited and pleased that they've become engaged," she said by telephone from her home in Florida. "I think that they seem to be very compatible. We've got to know her quite well."

Hawke said her family encouraged Petit to find peace and joy in his life.

"I see a great change in him," she said. "I think he'll have pretty good sailing from now on. We felt he was a blank person for a long time."

Aretha Franklin got engaged to her longtime friend, William "Willie" Wilkerson over the holidays, she confirmed on Monday.

Franklin told the Associated Press that she and Wilkerson are planning a summer wedding in Miami Beach, Fla. with a reception on a private yacht and joked to the wire service, "We're looking at June or July for our date and no, I'm not pregnant, LOL!"

The 69-year-old soul singer said she is considering Donna Karan, Valentino or Vera Wang to design her wedding dress.

Franklin told talk show host Wendy Williams in March that she had lost 85 pounds and was "feeling wonderful.".

The singer, who has struggled with her weight for many years, has denied that she had gastric bypass surgery.
