Eva Longoria confirms she's dating Mark Sanchez, NY Jets quarterback: 'We're happy'

Eva Longoria has confirmed that she is dating New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, following weeks of rumors and more than a year after she divorced NBA player Tony Parker.

Host Mario Lopez asked the 37-year-old about her new flame on the TV show "Extra," referencing a recent New York Post cover story about the two, which had followed several other dating reports. In early September, the newspaper published a photo of the "Desperate Housewives" actress and Sanchez, 25, dining with several friends at a Donald Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey.

"You're an (expletive)," Longoria told Lopez, laughing. "No, Mark and I are, you know, fine. We're happy. We're just ... dating."

"You know what, I'm a big fan of the Jets because they have the best center in the NFL - Nick Mangold," she added.

Sanchez has not commented about their relationship. The magazine In Touch had reported on July 2 that the two were spotted together in early June, shopping together at a New Jersey supermarket and having dinner with friends at a New York hotel.

Longoria, best known for playing feisty Gabrielle Solis on ABC's "Desperate Housewives," was married to Parker, a 30-year-old player for the San Antonio Spurs basketball team, for more than three years. Their divorce was finalized in January 2011. She was previously married to actor Tyler Christopher from 2002 to 2004. The actress has no children.

Sanchez was born in Long Beach, near Los Angeles, and grew up in the Orange Cou nty area of California. He studied and played football at the University of Southern California before he was drafted by the Jets in 2009.

The New York Post also described several of his and Longoria's reported dates - it said they once had dinner at a steakhouse and on a different night, dined at a Japanese restaurant and attended a performance of the Broadway musical "Rock of Ages."

Sanchez had appeared on stage at the 2010 Tony Awards to introduce the cast of "Memphis" and declared: "I've become a huge fan of musicals since I've come to New York and I've taken some heat from guys on the team, believe me."

Longoria previously dated Penelope Cruz's 27-year-old brother Eduardo. People magazine reported in early March that they called it quits after dating for a year.

Longoria was also asked by Lopez about a possible run for political office. She told him: "No, I think the power is in the citizen."

The actress had recently given a speech at the Democratic National Convention on September 6, as did Scarlett Johnasson and Kerry Washington (watch videos of their speeches).

Longoria is an avid supporter of President Barack Obama. She participated in an Obama For America Women's Summit event at Miami Dade College on August 4. She also serves as a national co-chair of Obama's reelection campaign. She also supported Obama in 2008.

Eva Longoria talks about cheating and denies 'Desperate Housewives' feud

Eva Longoria is making media rounds for the upcoming series finale of "Desperate Housewives" on May 13 and the actress recently dished about how she dealt with being cheated on and an alleged feud between the "Desperate Housewives" cast.

In an interview on the Lifetime talk show "The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet," Longoria talked about recovering from infidelity.

Longoria does not mention her ex-husband, NBA player Tony Parker, by name during the episode but Longoria reportedly found hundreds of text messages from another woman on Parker's phone, who turned out to be the wife of one of the NBA player's teammates. The reports were never confirmed by Longoria, Parker or their spokespeople.

Longoria and Parker, who met in late 2004, wed in Europe in 2007. The couple's divorce was finalized in January 2011. The two had no children. This was Longoria's second marriage. She was married to actor Tyler Christopher from 2002 to 2004.

"I am so secure in who I am. I really am! And I'm not conceited. I just think, 'Wow, okay, that's the life you want to live,'" she told host Amanda de Cadenet. "It wasn't about who he chose. I mean, I had moments, 'Am I not sexy enough? Am I not pretty enough? Am I not smart enough?' But in so many of those questions, I immediately stopped and said, 'No, don't start doing that.'"

The interview aired on May 10 and Longoria explained after she confronted the person about why they cheated, "It was definitely not about me and 'the why' did say that."

"It didn't make me feel better but it helped me understand," she added.

Longoria also appeared on "The Late Show With David Letterman" on May 9 and the 37-year-old actress was asked about by Letterman if the "Desperate Housewives" cast gets along.

We all get along," Longoria said.

"I thought there were fights and stuff," Letterman asked.

"I know, everyone says that," Longoria added.

Letterman then asked, "Didn't one get fired?"

Longoria laughed and said, "Yes, I forgot about that one."

Letterman was referring to Nicollette Sheridan, who filed a wrongful termination lawsuit regarding her exit from the ABC show. A judge declared a mistrial in March and Sheridan was granted a retrial for the lawsuit, which is scheduled for September.

Sheridan had claimed that her character, Edie Britt, was killed off in retaliation for complaining about a confrontation with show creator Marc Cherry. She had demanded $6 million in damages for alleged battery and wrongful termination.

Longoria reportedly split from her boyfriend Eduardo Cruz in March. The "Desperate Housewives" actress had been romantically linked to Cruz, a 26-year-old singer and the younger brother of actress Penelope Cruz, since early 2011.
